FLDS Parents Could Face Charges for Abandoning their "Lost Boys"
KCPW News ^ | February 14, 2008

Posted on 02/22/2008 9:11:12 AM PST by Zakeet

They're called the "Lost Boys," the teenagers kicked out of their homes and communities by leaders of the polygamist Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to ensure there's an ample supply of single, young women who will one day become plural wives. Representative Lorie Fowlke (R-Orem), is running a bill to make this abandonment a felony.

"Estimates are that we've had more than 1,000 children - primarily in southern Utah - thrown out of their homes," Fowlke says. "What we were trying to do with this bill is criminalize this behavior and send a message to this community that they can't just throw away their children."

H.B. 23 adds child abandonment to the definition of child abuse, and makes it a felony crime. It also adds an enhancement if a parent or organization benefits from the child's abandonment to further an illegal enterprise, such as polygamy. This is the case with the FLDS church, says Roger Hoole, a lawyer who represents some of the displaced young men and sits on the board for the Utah Association for Justice. He says the church benefits from kicking out young men who would compete for plural wives. This, he says, has devastating consequences.

"There's a huge impact that's coming, like a tsunami, that's going to hit the state of Utah, when these boys get a little older and realize what has happened to them and get angry," Hoole says. "There's a real problem here."

Fowlke's bill gained unanimous support in a Senate committee this morning, and now heads to the full Senate for consideration.

~”Let me reprhrase that:

Christianity MORMONISM has embraced falsehood after falsehood, then gotten together and said:

“Behold there are save two churches only; the one is the Church of the Lamb of God [the Mormon Church] and the other is the church of the devil [All other Churches]; wherefore whosoever belongeth not to the church of the lamb of God belongeth to that great church; which is the mother of abominations; and she is the whore of all the earth.” (The Book of Mormon, 1 Nephi 14:10).”~

Um, no. This betrays a deep ignorance on your part of LDS theology.

The Church of Christ is comprised of His followers, regardless of denomination.

The Church of the Devil is comprised of all those who fight against Christ, regardless of denomination.

~”So we finally are in agreement that your Jesus is not the Jesus of Christianity.”~

No, you’re reading your own interpretation into my words, just as you read your own interpretation into the “Church of the Devil” doctrine above. That seems to be a recurring habit with you, P-M.

I worship the Jesus of Christianity - the original, one-and-only Savior of Mankind.

Christianity, to an extent, has abandoned that Christ, and has instead chosen to worship its own theology - so much so that if you accept Christ but not the traditional theology that “Christians” promulgate, they do not consider you Christian.

In short, the dogmas of orthodoxy have become an idol to many Christians.

It’s not surprising, then, to see such “Christians” act in a very un-Christlike fashion; after all, their god - dogma - doesn’t teach them be be Christlike. Christ did that, but He’s not the object of their devotion. Sad to see, really.

Did I ever tell you how charming you are when you resort to personal insult in lieu of reasoned response?

I, of course, do not take offense at the term “Mormon;” but I find it endlessly fascinating that you use the term as if I should, as if my being a Mormon should immediately be applied as a filter to discredit everything I say. It’s an endearingly subtle little trick, MHG. Shall we even call it “devious?”

~”taunti boo”~

Come now, MHG, either act your age or learn to be more effective in your displays of childishness.

~”Therefore, faith is the stuff, the substance, the thing we may exercise on this side of death, not the other side.”~

We believe that faith is an eternal principle; it is practiced by us both during and after this life.

~”...faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.”~

And what of those who never have the opportunity to hear? We keep asking you this question. Does God damn to Hell the ignorant savage who never hears the name of Christ? Would that be merciful? Would that be just?

If God is merciful and just, then how do you reconcile that the fact that orthodox Christianity condemns such people to eternal damnation?

If a person can’t exercise saving faith in Christ after this life, then an infant who dies is damned. A mentally retarded person is damned. A good person who never hears of Christ is damned. That leads to the conclusion that God is unfair, unmerciful, and unjust. And you cannot justify this to me within the bounds of your theology; I defy you to try.

Sorry, that’s not the God I worship. Mine is the one the Bible talks about - the one who is merciful, loving, kind, and just.

I accept your correction, RM. However, I did not intend that as any more of a personal shot than “taunti boo” was meant to deride me as either a taunter or a whiner. My intent is solely to invite MHG to raise the level of discourse above that of puerile wordplay.

You have always applied an even hand in your moderation of these discussions. I hope that continues into the future.

You are welcome.

And I must say WOW, only 600 posts behind after a few days away from FR.

Needless to say, I won’t be catching up on this thread. Skimming through a few, many seem to be obsessed with Joseph Smith and polygamy, or even polyandry. We’ve been down this road before. It’s the same thing over and by the same people over and over, besmirching a man who is not here to defend himself or his spirituality and prophetic calling. I haven’t the time to do this over and over either. It seems that some do.

All that said, I do find it interesting that these same detractors never look to the fruit of the tree, as Jesus instructed us to do. They often dig through the dirt, trying to find the roots, peeling back bark or snapping off twigs. Never the fruit. A bad tree cannot bring forth good fruit, never has never will.

I will leave this thread with this though. If you all want to know the fruit, instead of throwing it at other people, take a bite. Learn the kind of fruit that is on the tree, and who we worship, as the true vine, our Savior, Jesus Christ.

No wonder Mormonism has sucked you in ...
"If a person can’t exercise saving faith in Christ after this life, then an infant who dies is damned. A mentally retarded person is damned. A good person who never hears of Christ is damned." You really should ask God to forgive you for trying that deceit, that blatant mischaracterization.

God measures the heart of man (or woman). When the Gospel is heard by someone, if they reject that Gospel of God's Grace in Christ and die in that state they are damned by their own actions. Now, an unborn baby, a little child, a man who lived never hearing the Grace of God in Christ, all are judged differently than the way I, you, or Ghandi is judged. You ought to know that and not try to use the apparent confusion to sow doubt over God's Mercy and Justice. You're getting irrational, Mormon. Try again, and this time remember that God's Grace is offered now, not after all that you can do else you will be defeated by the evil one, for sure!

We are tired of answering your so-called direct questions because you then turn around and misrepresent and lie about what was said in response.

Ditto!

I worship the Jesus of Christianity

No you don't.

Ask any Catholic or Orthodox or Protestant if Jesus was a created being who was spiritually born the brother of Lucifer in the pre-existence. That is the Jesus you worship. That is not the Jesus of Christianity.

You may have the last word.

~”God measures the heart of man (or woman).”~

Ah, good! So a person -doesn’t- have to accept the Gospel of Jesus Christ in this life in order to be saved. He or she simply needs to have a heart that God judges worthy. God will judge a person in the context of factors in their life.

You and I agree, after all. You may want to check in with P-Marlowe, though; he was telling me something very different. Perhaps you can instruct him somewhat, because he seems to be under the impression that God is not merciful, kind, or just. It might also be the case that he worships a different Jesus than you and I do.

Reminder P-Marlowe, you have no authority nor say in the LDS relationship which is between the LDS and the Lord, Jesus Christ!

The LDS' Jesus is not the Jesus of Christianity.

As a Christian I have been given the knowledge and the authority to make that Judgment.

Getting more irrational by the minute. Ignoring the context and other thigs offered in the post you lifted from is getting to be a rather telling methodology, Mormon.
You have a nice night, I'm going to bed and listen to very cool music.

Won’t it be oosp for the Trinity folks find out they held on to a lie of the description in the Nicene Creed of the Godhead!

But I am sure the Lord is merciful knowing in his children hearts they were worshiping Jesus Christ.
