FLDS Parents Could Face Charges for Abandoning their "Lost Boys"
KCPW News ^ | February 14, 2008

Posted on 02/22/2008 9:11:12 AM PST by Zakeet

They're called the "Lost Boys," the teenagers kicked out of their homes and communities by leaders of the polygamist Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to ensure there's an ample supply of single, young women who will one day become plural wives. Representative Lorie Fowlke (R-Orem), is running a bill to make this abandonment a felony.

"Estimates are that we've had more than 1,000 children - primarily in southern Utah - thrown out of their homes," Fowlke says. "What we were trying to do with this bill is criminalize this behavior and send a message to this community that they can't just throw away their children."

H.B. 23 adds child abandonment to the definition of child abuse, and makes it a felony crime. It also adds an enhancement if a parent or organization benefits from the child's abandonment to further an illegal enterprise, such as polygamy. This is the case with the FLDS church, says Roger Hoole, a lawyer who represents some of the displaced young men and sits on the board for the Utah Association for Justice. He says the church benefits from kicking out young men who would compete for plural wives. This, he says, has devastating consequences.

"There's a huge impact that's coming, like a tsunami, that's going to hit the state of Utah, when these boys get a little older and realize what has happened to them and get angry," Hoole says. "There's a real problem here."

Fowlke's bill gained unanimous support in a Senate committee this morning, and now heads to the full Senate for consideration.

This is no such thing as Mormon doctrine!

LDS Woman posted: "I actually should have said “exaltation.” “Salvation” in the sense of resurrection is available to all, but it involves a lot of explanation. In order to gain all the blessings which are available in the Celestial Kingdom, we must have been married in the temple. We will be judged on how we treat our spouses. We expect to be together after this life."

What I glean from it is that Mormon's don't know, or won't tell, what their doctrine on salvation is and that their salvation is definitely not the salvation of historic Christianity.

The FLDS is to the LDS church as the Westboro Baptist Church is to Baptists

Haven't heard it put that way but that's pretty much spot on.

OK...I have asked you twice, restornu, what the Mormon doctrine is...and you have not responded.

Do you have a response, with citations, giving a concrete answer realtive to what salvation in the Mormon Church is?

Outer Darkness (some liken this to hell) is reserved for people who have been LDS and know the deeper truths and have rejected them - perhaps like me.

Who knows what will happen to you CC that is up to you and your relationship to the Lord!

“But, but, but, the MORMONS do this? That can’t be.”

These aren’t “the” Mormons. They’re a rebel offshoot group. What are you, Baptist? Catholic? Methodist? This would be like condemning Methodists because an offshoot group with “Methodist” in their name practiced something abhorrent.

“They believe that Joseph Smith was a Prophet, they follow the Book of Mormon, they follow the Doctrine & Covenants (even better than the mainstream LDS Church in regards to section 132). In fact I think these are the true believing Mormons.”

I think you’re looking for any excuse to belittle Mormons.

Be careful. The day may come when you need the support of those “cultists”, when secularists decide that your faith is a danger to America, and try to shut you down.

Um...Post# 81 asks you questions, restornu.

Asking questions does not constitute abuse or bigotry of any kind.

What is the LDS doctrine related to salvation, hell and exaltation?

Ok, that’s just silly.

I’ll leave truth to God. And you and she don’t qualify. In the meantime, even if you disagree with the Mormon’s faith, the way you’re going about it sucks. This is conservative political website, not God’s Official Truth site. If you’re going to rip other people’s churches, do it elsewhere.

I agree completely with you....there will always be groups that are offshoots from other religions, and they use what they want from the former religion, and adopt other things to add to their new religion....

Was Jim Jones a representative of whatever religion he was supposed to be?...of course not...was David Koresh, representative of whatever religion he was supposed to be?...of course, not...Does the Westboro church represent whatever religion they profess to be?...of course not...

And I could go on and on...I think everyone, with a tiny bit of actual thought, could get this...

There will always be evil folks who will use their evil ways, to distort whatever religion they profess to be...

My understanding has always been, that these splinter churches, who profess that they are LDS, and practice polygamy, are not considered to be LDS, by the main body of professing LDS believers...

However, if one is anxious for a fight, it is always handy and tricky, tho deceptive and lazy thinking, to trot out some splinter groups, and take their actions, to be representative of the larger group as a whole...

However, it is in the end, an ineffective tactic...this tactic works only if one ‘wants’ to believe that the smaller group, is actually representative of the larger group...why anyone ‘wants’ to believe such nonsense, is known only to them...

Yes it and people keep repeating it!

Well...instead of posting to the Religion Moderator, set them straight, restornu!

Go ahead and cite the Mormon doctrine in regard to salvation, hell and exaltation.

You could put to bed, once for all, what Mormon salvation is...What is it and how does one get it?

Why is that such an unanswerable question?

There is the Book of Mormon something like you would call the book of Matthew, Luke or John.

There is a Mormon tabernacle choir.

But there is no such thing as Mormon church, doctrine or salavtion.
