So a single man should spend his time in a) Bars with 2 to 1 men (or) b) Churches with 2 to 1 women?

I browsed an excellent book on this subject. Titled
“ No More Chritian Nice Guy” by Coughlin (forget the first name)

You know, I keep telling my single brother and single friends that they should go to Church more as it’s a good place to meet women.....hoping they’ll pick up the piety the piety through osmosis.

I also keep telling my single female friends to go to the TLM, lots of single young men there.

A counterexample — I have no idea how the numbers work out — the Texas Baptist Men with their disaster relief crews. Very effective after the Katrina disaster.

Since they aren’t talking about homosexuality when they talk about femininity vs. masculinity, I wonder what parameters are being used to determine “femininity” and “masculinity”? Are we looking at things like “likes to read” as opposed to “likes to play football”?

Every family I know of that does not attend church regularly has a father/husband who isn’t leading in that respect. My family was one. I insisted, and, for once, got my way. If a man gets up on Sunday, gets the kids ready, and is going to church, there aren’t many women who are going to stay behind at home. “Get your ass up, we’re going to church” is something God can forgive you for saying. First you have to say it to yourself.

A lot of men are stuck in their early teens when it comes to church (and so many other things). They have never gotten past being mad at Mommy and Daddy for making them go sit in those uncomfortable pews, and wear those uncomfortable clothes. Grow up!

Is football the problem? The earliest games kick off at 1:00 pm. Most churches are done at noon. It is physically impossible for me to watch any more football than I already do, but it doesn’t stop me from attending.

Is it too early? 9:45 or so for Sunday School and 11:00 or so for church is early? Get your ass out of bed. You have already slept in late. If you were out late enough that sleeping until 9 isn’t enough, then you might want to think about what you were doing.

Is it getting dressed up? Most churches are pretty informal these days (unfortunately). Flip-flops are not appropriate, but you don’t have to put on a tie (Like generations of men before you somehow survived doing).

Does it eat up too much of the day? Well, I am sure Christ felt a bit of inconvenience being nailed to a cross all day for the sake of a bunch of ingrates. Still, you could go to an early service. Catholics and Episcopalians make it pretty easy on you, with services all over the day.

Is it golf? Put on a blazer over your golf clothes, and meet your buddies for early church. Tee off at 10:00 am. Meet the wife and kids for lunch. Yeah, you have to roll out of bed, but how badly do you want to play? If you have small children, they are going to get you up anyway.

Don’t know anybody there? Churches are generally pretty friendly places. You could also get some friends to go with you. Eight or nine visitors will make you quite the commodity.

Afraid you might hear something that makes you uncomfortable, like that you might be sinning? Well, grow a pair. You are sinning. We all are, almost continuously.

Now, the churches could do more to entice men to come. The touchy-feely psycho-babble that has replaced sound teaching is a start. Also, men tend to be more politically conservative than women, and the leaders of the mainline churches are liberals. I go to a mainline Protestant church that is, at the national level, full of liberals. Jesus as squishy pacifist is a problem for many men (and for truth). That kind to lib garbage isn’t going to change on its own.

Get your lazy ass up and in church on Sunday (Saturday for you Seventh Day folks).
