it would be easier to find greater unity with Protestants. It would, but I get the impression that itself is a stumbling block for many of the faithful. They've been taught to despise us, as we are the willfully disobedient...

God judges, the purgation happens. When God is satisfied, the soul goes to heaven.Vain philosophy of man with ZERO scriptural support.

Thus, I consider the Eastern Orthodox, and Anglican Catholic priests in the apostolic succession to be properly ordained priests from whom the sacraments Jesus and the Apostles instituted can be properly obtained.I can find no Scripture that shows any Apostle having ordained or otherwise instituted a priesthood. The closest I've seen is Hebrews, where earthly priestly classes are put to rest forever!

Perrier of course! Evian is "naive" spelled backward.

If you watch the Sopranos, you'll understand. Well said! What better comparison with the RCC than the mafia!

It was intended as a compliment.

It chalks man's salvation up to his own abilities to save himself after the fact rather than to God's supreme power, judgement, and mercy. No. If one is in purgatory, then he won't be going to hell, that is, he is saved. There needs to be a purgation or purification before entering heaven. The souls in purgatory can do nothing for themselves.

"... When a Catholic begins doubting their salvation or feeling guilty about their sinning they simply meet with a priest in private confession, contribute the dollar amount he assesses based upon the type, level, and/or degree of the sin(s), and then the priest prays to God on the persons behalf which always results in meritorious forgiveness and a full pardon. Throughout life a Catholic can continue to request these sessions as many times as they deem necessary making sure they have more than enough merits to be saved for eternal life. The Roman Catholic Church also teaches that this sacrament is made possible because God has treasures stored up in heaven called merits, Treasury of Merits. Merits consist of the grace accumulated by Christs sacrifice and the meritorious deeds of the old saints in heaven. They claim God charges every person a certain amount of merits they will need to earn during their lifetime to either be exempt from purgatory after they die or to work their way out of purgatory . Merits are earned by Catholics either working for the Lord in service, through purchase, or by a combination of both. But the objective is to have more merits than demerits before death so eternal life in heaven is possible........ This is the funniest thing I have read in a long time. It made me laugh even though there is a burst water pipe in my house. I thought it was from The Onion....

So--that is your opinion.
Does it (your opinion) have stature and antiquity to give it gravitas?
To: pjr12345
Only if one believes the gospel and obeys it does one access the hope of eternal life through Jesus Christ. What do you mean obeys the gospel??? What then is the gospel, the bible???

I forgot all about the mortal/venial sin thing! Each "class" of sin is assigned a status by the RCC hierarchy based upon its arbitrary notions and self-interest. If you commit a "venial" sin, you can pray it off with Penance (er, Reconciliation). If you commit a mortal sin you have to do your earthly Penance, but now you're faced with time in Purgatory, maybe even Hell. Unless, of course, the Pope declares an amnesty by allowing mortal sinners to perform some earthly act (participate in a crusade, pay an indulgence (donations, they're called today), or any other flippant reason he chooses.

It's not just my opinion, it's my belief. Given that my comment pertained to me it counts for EVERYTHING!
To: mockingbyrd
No one could possibly believe that. Wait yes they could.

Obeying the Gospel (in a nutshell)
1) Hear and Believe
2) Profess your commitment publicly
3) Undergo full immersion water baptism for the forgiveness of your sins
4) Continue living in a manner pleasing to the Lord, growing in His Word
*** I have no desire to get into a discussion on a) the need of baptism, or b) faith/works. As such, I have refrained from providing Scripture references; and don't be surprised if I ignore any posts regarding these. I am merely responding to Iscool's question.

So much error - in so few sentences. I think this may be some kind of record, you should check with the Guinness people.
