I understand that many don't like to hear this type of thing, but it's important to know where the customs we observe come from and why we observe them.

Why, exactly? Why does it matter what happened hundreds of years ago on this night?

I do agree it is useful to know where holidays come from, and why they were originally observed.

And let me state categorically I am not defending Hallowe'en.

However, to most people, Hallowe'en is a night to let the kids dress up and ask for candy. That's it. The people who are taking it seriously -- from a spiritual or cultural view -- are adults, both the ones who truly celebrate it in their hearts (how pathetic is that?) and those that wring their hands over it.

Please, everyone, let's not freak out over this stupid kid's holiday (stupid meaning the holiday, not the kids!). By all means, avoid any costumes that have origins in occultism, Satanism, or whatnot. But if your kids want to dress up and ask for candy, dress them up as George Washington or the Pillsbury Doughboy.

As history it's interesting.

As a reason not to let kids have some fun- it's ridiculous.

Sometimes..we simply need to lighten UP:)

Halloween used to be an innocuous little party day with kids dressing up and the candy etc. etc.

However, its celebrations has been taken up more publically by the Wiccans and Satanists who proclaim the day's wickedness.

Therefore it is valid and useful for you to bring up its origins so that we are more aware of its insidiousness. Thanks for posting.

...but it's important to know where the customs we observe come from and why we observe them.

So, you're saying that, regardless of how it's treated now, Halloween retains its roots as a pagan festival and people are inadvertently giving some sort of power to these pagan notions by celebrating this particular holiday?

So, Christmas remains a distinctly Christian holiday, and no one here should worry about attempts to secularize it because any celebration on that day gives power to Christianity.

You can't have it both ways.

No Halloween, no Christmas, and probably not that egg carrying bunny day or those little green people with kettles of gold or St. Valentine's day since he came after the final chapter in the King James Bible. Do you celebrate April 15th?

It was originally a holiday marking the mythical time when the dead supposedly rose from their graves to walk the earth.

Mythical? They rise just in time to vote Demoncrat. How conveeenient.

Do you have any stats on how many kids become satanist after Halloween? I would like to see a study on this important topic.

Those who do not understand will mock.

They believe it is harmless but they also do not believe there is a devil.

They are the one's who claim to believe in God and when something goes wrong it is God that did it not the devil.

You did good by posting it and someone will either change or be confirmed in their belief for it.

We do not celebrate Halloween because of it's dark side, weather one still practices it or not is not the case. Acknowledging evil and exalting it is not of God.

We celebrate harvest season and do things with our children that are uplifting to God and acknowledging his Glory in all he has done.

God Bless
