Posted on 09/05/2006 5:16:17 PM PDT by Rosary
Well its a question put forth from the common sense this leader of the wilderness brought on. An honest guy, unafraid of even the untamed land. Well, were the black robes out there too, in their day and age working to save souls?

Ol' Daniel was sittin' thar on his ol' wicker rocker, thar in Boonesborough...
A young reporter came up to him, wantin' to make a name for himself by becoming the biographer of ol' Daniel.
The youngster approaches ol' Daniel and asks his permission to ask questions and write Dan's biography.
Ol' Daniel has no qualms and agrees. After many sessions and tales, the young reporter, totally amazed with the history provided asks, "In all those years in the wilderness, were you ever lost?"
Ol' Daniel sat there in his wicker rocker, with his dog, ol' Blue and puffed on his corn-cob pipe. Back and forth he rocked, back and forth...with his dog ol' Blue there.
After a spell, ol' Daniel replied, puffing on his pipe, "All them yars (years) in the wilderness, powerful lot of yars, can't say I was ever lost....bewildered once for 7 days though..."

John Wayne was a lifelong Presbyterian.
His children were raised as Roman Catholics, but Wayne never left the Presbyterian church, regardless of how many times other people would like that to be true.

born November 2, 1734 in a log cabin in Berks County, near present-day Reading, Pennsylvania. Boone is one of the most famous pioneers in United States history. He spent most of his life exploring and settling the American frontier.

I don't know if Daniel Boone was a Catholic or not, but I am absolutely positive that Davy Crockett was King Of The Wild Frontier.

I cant find anything on his religious practice but I could be wrong about his parents being quakers.
His father was a squire who came to america from England.

I think that was mentioned in the History Channel show that covered
Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett.

I collect old textbooks from the 1800's. I am sure I read about his family being Quakers in one of the readers.
I would trust a 1800's reader over todays media any day.

This I do know. Daniel Boone was a man. Yes a big man.
With an eye like an eagle and as tall as a mountain was he.
He was brave, he was fearless and as tough as a mighty oak tree.

Well its a question put forth from the common sense this leader of the wilderness brought on.That sounds like a weird insinuation that no one besides Catholics would have any common sense.
Surely you didn't mean to imply that.

I was aware of it -- but I just couldn't get into it like when I was a kid.
Something just don't age all that well.
But FWIIW, Fess Parker is still alive(at 82).

According to a PA religious census atlas Berks Count in Boone's formative years contained one Catholic church, apparently in Reading. There were about a half dozen each of Quaker and Lutheran congregations; but all of these were all minorities compared with the couple dozen German Reformed (Zwinglian) congregations.

Squire was a Quaker. One would have to assume that the son was as well.

If John Wayne was a Catholic, I'm sure this will stir up some controversy.

Yes I saw that, he owns a winery in California now. A few years back he ran for a political office in california as a republican. He had to withdraw because of health reasons.

Yes. Quaker family. But when Daniel Boone's siblings married out his father left the Quaker church after being criticized for standing with his children's decisions to marry non-Quakers.
