Here's something that all Catholics can do in the days before the the release of the Da Vinci Code movie. Pray the Rosary, with the intention that all those who are thinking about seeing the movie avoid doing so, so their souls may not be put at risk. If you say the Rosary daily, add this intention to those that you already have. If you can, pray the Rosary every day, during the nine days left before the release of the movie. Continue to pray the Rosary during the run of the movie in the theaters.
No matter what you think what should be done in response to the movie, this is a powerful action we can all take.
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us!
Mary, Mother of Perpetual Help, pray for us!
Our Lady of the Rosary, pray for us!
Great Historical Victories of the Rosary (I know, it's a SSPX site, but the article was written by a Dominican)
Catholic ping!
Good idea. Churches should have adoration and benediction the day the movie starts.
Will do!!
Just a thought....
Matthew 6:5-8
And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask Him.
I went to see United 93 and there were trailers for the Da Vinci Code. I didn't read the book, am not going to read it, and not going to see the movie.
My Question: Has anyone read the book and is the movie (essentially a crazy spy thriller nonsense stupid story) the same basic script as the book?
The trailers were some of the most stupid things I have ever seen and anyone who would believe any of that trash would have to be a dope.
I don't see anybody praying in public here. Do you?
Or do you object to a call to unite in prayer for a special intention?
If that is the case, do you object to the frequent prayer threads on FR?
The Lord's point is that we should pray with the right intention. It's not just about the location.
will do
Ping! This ought'a git yur gun.
According to freeper Sandyeggo, her pastor at St. Ephrem's Maronite Catholic Church, Fr. Nabil, believes that many souls will be lost as a result of this book. Thank you, Pyro, for an excellent suggestion. Our Blessed Mother hears our prayers and intercedes with her Son.
Thanks, Nyer! Wow, what a great suggestion. Thanks, Pyro. I'm on board. I'm sure each of us knows at least a few people who are being tricked by the (fiction) 'novel' and movie. And sandyeggo, what a blessing you have, and have shared with us!, to have such a holy Pastor.
I agree, intent is the purpose of prayer. I do not understand the Rosary portion. My intent is not to offend; but this seems counter to the instruction given in Matthew, in that it is a repetition, and not a soul-searching request to God. That is why I prefaced my post with the word 'Consider'.
God can take it and use it to His will. There will be people who see it who are drawn to the faith. Just mho.
If that is so, why did Our Lord repeat the same prayer in the garden the night before His Passion and Death?

I haven't read it. Many of the people I know who've read it, and loved it, are Catholics, and quite a few of them are Catholic school teachers. Some give it as gifts, others encourage their students to read it. And they believe it as truth, finally freed up for us all. Sigh. My pastor (a temp, filling in) has stopped short of forbidding it and has made it known he is opposed to it, but few have paid attention to him on that.
I'm told (I haven't read it, just excerpts) that the movie is true to the book. I don't know about everyone here, but far too many people I know love it, and think it true, even when confronted with the point that it was written as fiction. Curiously many of these same folks are big Potter fans.
Thanks for the basic review. I know a number of people who have read the book. I'm sure its entertaining reading. The entire premise is silly. A conspiracy? Mighty big conspiracy kept way too tight for way too long. Entertaining, perhaps. Silly, certainly.

'Souls at risk' is a point O'Reilly couldn't grasp in todays radio show.
What exactly was he talking about, and did he have a guest on?
