**"When heretics make headlines, they are also making Catholics, and very good Catholics at that. Some take a long while to reach Rome,............**
Converts are very often the BEST and most enthusiastic Catholics! (That is evident by several right here on FR!!)
Also, many who were baptized as Catholics, and then who strayed to Protestants groups are now coming back to the Catholic Church through the doors of many 'welcome back' programs now in existance.
Indeed. My parents are both converts to the Faith. My dad’s dad was a Presbyterian Minister, and my mom’s parents were fundamentalists in their background. My dad once told me that for him it was an intellectual thing. In so many words, he read himself into the Church. My mom has told me that she was drawn to the Church from when she was a little girl, and that my grandmother, bless her, wore black when she became a Catholic. She misunderstood, but was still there for her youngest daughter.
They’re still devout Catholics, who raised four boys and who just celebrated their fiftieth anniversary last month. (huzzah!)
As to the latter group you mentioned, one of my favorite Biblical exegetes is Dr. Robert Sungenis, who left the Church at nineteen to become a protestant, and a renowned Biblical scholar, and read himself right back into the One True Faith. Whether a person is Catholic or protestant, you could do a lot worse than his kind of Biblical expertise.
