The Prophetic Hurricane Strikes Again
American Vision ^ | Monday, September 12, 2005 | Gary DeMar

The prophetic prognosticators are at the prediction game again. Greg Laurie, author of Are We Living in the Last Days?,” is peering through contemporary events like Hurricane Katrina, earthquakes, 9–11, and the tsunami that struck Southeast Asia on December 26, 2004 and claiming that these events are a prelude to the “rapture” of the church. George Noory, host of “Coast to Coast AM,” follows a similar line of thought. “I don't think there’s any doubt. I think we’re really in [the end times].” We’ve read about similar predictions for centuries. Nearly 20 centuries of predictions of the end have yellowed and grown faint with the parchment and paper they were written and printed on.

LOL. A couple years ago when we were warned of a possible chemical attack around here, I got the last six-pack of duct tape at Costco.

My children's children will be able to hermetically seal themselves inside any room they desire and still have enough left over to tie down the Goodyear blimp.

Not all of the calvinists are postmil. Bib Chr is not post-mil. Memory says I've run across a number of amils among them.

"Not all of the calvinists are postmil. Bib Chr is not post-mil. Memory says I've run across a number of amils among them."

And some enlightened Calvinists are pre-trib!

You betcha.

If they were consistent in their hermeneutics, Reformed guys would also be Dispensationalists. (And, may I say, vice-versa.)

LOL. THX.

I rarely even take the fortune cookie. If I do, I first pray and receive nothing that doesn't come through the Blood and Cross of Christ Jesus!

I think I took it tonight but don't recall what it said. The Chinese phrase was "miss me" or some such.

The full game of Chinese chess is too much work. Like Western chess and not fun for me.

But the half game of Chinese chess played with the same pieces on a board of 8 squares by 4 squares is great fun.

The pieces are all mixed up face down so every arrangement is new. They are turned over as a turn one at a time and moving a piece is a turn. Great fun.

Anyway--Have a blessed evening and week. Thanks for your kind msg.

There's probably a good reason why there's only one Dispensationalist Reformed guy among the Calvinists... 8~)

Off topic: My husband wants to know if ABC Monday Night Football has been disrupted on anyone else's TV besides ours?

That's the irony of it, actually. Modern dispensationalism has its roots in a Calvinistic preacher (Darby), yet modern Arminians hold to it more uniformly than Calvinists. Conversely, the major Arminian movement of the recent era (Methodism) was historically Postmillenial, and yet its descendants, the Holiness and Pentecostal movements, are predominantly dispensationalist.

I'll go with the Dispensations, but I'll not with the vice versa. :>)

Always feels weird being on the same side as all the Calvinists.

Come over to the dark side....

But at least I can comfort myself with the thought that in its prime, Methodism was postmillenial as well.

I am leaning towards an amil view.

And duct tape is the poor cousin of the famous "100 mile an hour" tape.

I tried to get a picture of the vacuum cleaner hose but I was afraid my wife would start with the "we need a new one" thing again. I mean, the duct tape works fine if you hold the nozzle just right. I keep telling her my mother never had a vacuum but somehow it just doesn't register.

Do you suppose that's why we are supposed to leave our mothers when we get married, a sort of cultural divide?

My wife was lamenting the fact that her dad wasn't around to see that they repaired the space shuttle with duct tape. (well, maybe he did see...)

But we used to always say that with duct tape and a staple gun, he could build a house.

"Could we be that generation? Time will tell. But if I were you, I would pay careful attention to all that is happening – you will be glad that you did!" ~ Greg Laurie

You know, these words of Greg are very interesting to me. What is so important about paying attention to what is happening around us. Does our ability to interpret the newspaper somehow secure our salvation or keep us safe or make us a better Christian?

I'm not crazy about "Coast to Coast AM's" opinion on these things. The whole program is about things paranormal, alien abductions, and other "twilight zone" topics.

One question I always ponder is "Are these things happening with greater frequency or are they just brought to our attention more in our 24 hour news day?" How would our approach to these things be different if we didn't have CNN, FOX, and satellites?

On a personal level I just don't think anyone is privy to the counsels of God on these matters and every attempt to set a season, time, or place to date has failed. So be ready for whatever comes by having your soul right with God. Frankly even if "the" end times don't emerge today anyone's end time could be today so just be prepared and let God take care of the rest.

That is profoundly true, CT. My husband gets irritated when I ask him a question about eschatology. He says it is unimportant and a diversion from our real path.

Though inspired by God, the Revelation of Jesus Christ is the least important book in the Bible. Sometimes I think He added it simply to show us the folly of our digressions from Him. Man's fervent concern with the here-after is better spent on the here-and-now. These are the days God has given us; this is the time we must fill with worship and productivity and spreading the Gospel.

The Puritans knew this and they built a country on this principle. Work was from God, according to His will, and therefore men's job was to turn the earth into a garden as a reflection of His glorify.

"Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?

Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof." -- Matthew 6:27,31-34

"Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. -- 1 Peter 5:6-11.

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." -- Philippians 4:6-7.

The work of salvation was completed on Calvary. Our work is to do His will in praise of His name for as long as He gives us breath.

I disagree. I think the book of Revelation, properly understood, is just as important as any other book in the Bible. It just saddens me that so many of my fellow Arminians try to interpret Revelation via their newspaper or favorite end time author. It makes us look incredibly ignorant. Just look at some of the silly stuff posted here. All the gloom and doom the sky is falling junk.

***The work of salvation was completed on Calvary. Our work is to do His will in praise of His name for as long as He gives us breath.***

I disagree. If the complete work of salvation was done on Calvary, then everyone would be saved. We still have our part. It is not like God is just going to zap you with salvation and on your merry way you go to do whatever you want.

Colin.
