I knew a Vegan Conservative once ... I think he got eaten alive.

Probably are, we've got just about everything else here. People usually don't discuss their beliefs except in the religious forum, so I can't really point to any specifically.

Dead Corpse is Pagan.

But, uh... they don't usually hang out on the Religion Forum, y'know? Just not that many Samhain threads, and all...

We did have a gay, Wiccan, anarchist, tree-hugger from Eugene, Oregon once, but he left for some reason. Good luck.

Did you hear about the Polock mathematicians who helped break the German Enigma code and shorten WWII by a year? http://www.codesandciphers.org.uk/virtualbp/poles/poles.htm

She: Honey, the Sheridans are coming over. Do you mind eating a vegetarian meal?
He: Not at all. Vegetarians are quite tasty, I hear.

I've run into several conservative pagans on this board, but I'm not sure if they hang out in the religion section. THe religion section tends to be about 1/4 15th-century Calvinists, 1/2 Catholics, (1/4 mainline Catholics, 1/4 ultra-traditionalist Catholics) and 1/4 everyone else (including several excellent regular Anglican posters).

Honest truth, since we're clobbering that joke:

I went to a retreat, where a woman gave a presentation about hwe relationship with God and discussing some of her troubles with dyslexia. Then she handed out pocket notebooks for us to write our thoughts down. They each had a picture of a puppy. I had to bite my lip.

Yes, I'm a pagan/wiccan, though not a very typical one, and increasingly a lip-service one. Too many pagans harbor knee-jerk opposition to any sort of efficient organization, and I find that pretty frustrating (though not as frustrating as the other end of the pagan spectrum: the Gardnerian wiccans, who insist that their demonstrably 1960s vintage rituals are actually of ancient origin, and must be followed to the letter or else -- that crowd has more in common with the "King James Bible is the literal and complete word of God" crowd, than either of those crowds likes to admit). I've run into at least half a dozen pagans here on FR -- can't recall their names though. Suspect they're all pretty atypical pagans too.

I have been Wiccan since 1973 and am proud of it. I am also Christian and have never understood why there is an implied conflict. This distortion is something I find personally insulting.

However, I am extremely conservative!

It has been so frustrating to watch Wicca being hijacked by "liberals" and "New Age" idiots over the last few years. Most Pagans today have no concept of a religion. They use the term "pagan" as a code word for "I hate Christians."

One of my strongest beliefs, is that God taught each culture around the world, in ways that they could understand. The basic religious concepts are the same, but how it was presented to them, was individually tailored.

For me, Wicca is my method of exploring the lessons that God has taught different cultures around the world in more detail. I learn by studying what each religion has in common, and not their differences.

Every religion in history has been a mixture of what God taught, and what man has modified for political power. Such is the way of humans and civilizations.

The goal is to separate the two aspects of religion, and strive for an understanding of God's lessons.

Merry met!

Is there any such thing as a "typical" pagan? I've run into everything from a Gardnerian who practices Golden Dawn type ritual magic to a "Kitchen Witch" who comes from an honest-to-goodness family tradition.
I think the aversion to any type of organization is a Celt thing rather than a Wiccan thing. Remember, when you have two Celts in a room, you have three political opinions represented.

As 12 Wiccans what they believe in, and you will get 13 answers. LOL

Exactly! The story of the four blind men experiencing the elephant is an excellent parable of man's relationship with the Divine. One blind man touches the elephant's trunk, and decides it's a type of snake. Another touches the leg and thinks it's like a tree, etc. Religion is a filter allowing humans to use their finite perceptions to experience the infinite.
I don't consider myself a Christian anymore, even though I believe Jesus was exactly who he said he was, and I tend to follow the spirit of his teachings closer than a lot of Christians.

Wicca is based upon an exploration of the beliefs of the pre-Christians Celts. History had not recorded those beliefs, but by careful study of how the Celts influenced other religions, it can be slowly pieced together.

There is an important reason why the Celts in British Isles were so rapidly converted to Christianity. They did not see a conflict, and Christianity shared many of their former religious beliefs. Over the years, may of the ancient Celtic beliefs were also adopted by Christianity.
