Here are the some of the results of a 1999 Gallup poll on creationism, evolution, and public education :
49% believe that human beings have developed over millions of years from less advanced forms of life.
Evolution theory is the most important weapon to twist people's minds.
For 99% of the people the most important REAL reason for believing in it : a trick that costed a few bucks, 100 years ago.
Even more incredible : the trick has remained the same until now.
Only lately, with very fast computers that allow virtual reality software to perform convincing enough, have we seen some effects added to the base trick.
I wonder who is the first Freeper to find out the trick behind the most devastating lie in the history of mankind.
Sentia digs for a living
I have also been around science long enough to know that data interpretation is almost always affected by the bias of the observer. Most of the stongest proponents of evolution rejected God before the first experiment. The data they cite "proves" their pet theories.
Yes, sentis, it is all a matter of faith - either in one's own vain speculation or in the revealed Word of the creator. Jude24, drstevej, and I all bet our lives on the truth of that Word. You bet yours on your own vain speculations. None of us can really test either in the laboratory. It is all of faith. I like the evidence for mine better than yours.
To the tune of "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" (with apologies to Gordon Lightfoot):
Of existence it's said that no man that's not dead, Can envision just what fate awaits him, And the harder he squirms to bring meaning to terms, The harder he falls to who baits him. Now the crevo threads come and the crevo threads go, And the rants and the raves are amusing, But the posters all know when the bad insults flow, That the mods will delete those abusing. So welcome my friend where the battles won't end, For the hearts and the minds of the lurkers, And whether you tend to attack or defend, You'll be set on by angry berserkers. Join in if you must and try not to combust, When your personal views are discarded, And try to refrain in your anger and pain, From calling the poster retarded. The logic that flows can be likened to blows, In a battle where tempers are roasting, And points that are made in a given tirade, Are forgotten the very next posting. For everyone sees their own forest and trees, And everyone else sees illusions, And someone will say in a negative way, That you're drowning in your own delusions. If choosing to side with creationist pride, Be sure to support what you tell'em, And ID won't play with the people that say, That no one designed the flagellum. Behe exclaims the flagellum remains, So complex that you can't reduce it, And Dembski's replied that it's all specified, But he can't say just how you deduce it. The evos will say it's the rational way, To explain all of life's vast profusion, Just look at the scores of extinct dinosaurs, And you'll see it's a foregone conclusion. The creos all scoff and then shrug it all off, The flood is the answer they treasure, When Noah embarked for a ride on the ark, With the animals stowed for good measure. We can't ascertain just how God made it rain, For a month and 10 days it persisted, But when it did stop and He reached for a mop, Most creatures no longer existed. So whether you seek, or whether you speak, Of the answers to life's endless myst'ry, They're not to be found where the crevos abound, Nor deep in the tomes of lost hist'ry. So seek not you here for the knowledge you fear, As the truth in this life is uncertain, Keep striving to cope as you live with the hope, It all lies beyond life's final curtain. So tie up loose ends with your family and friends, In the end they're the ones that most matter, The games that we play are forgotten that day, And it's death that calls end to your patter. Of existence it's said that no man that's not dead, Can believe in his heart that he's mortal, But when it's the end it's too late to pretend, That he knows what it's like past the portal.
The river runs both ways. Stop trying to tell me what I believe, and what I and "people of my stripe" want. You're playing to the crowd, hoping that the unaware will believe your lies.
Does anyone believe that is people of your stripe were to come into power there would not be legislation of all sorts based on biblical edicts. How many Blue laws would return to the books. How many laws proscribing certain behaviors. Your an intolerant group with intolerant goals.
Oh, so now I'm a group? The Blue Laws were not all that great. One thing is for sure, morality cannot be legislated. But, there have to be limits placed on behaviors that are demonstrably not beneficial to the public as a whole, nor to individuals in particular. Since those involved seem unwilling and unable to curb their own appetites and lusts, laws to restrict and criminalize such behavior are necessary, for the public good. Certain things, certain actions just cannot be allowed in a civilized society. Murder, Rape, Theft, all fall into that catagory. I don't really think you would argue agaisnt that point, unless you're really, really stupid. Proscribing certain behaviors that are detrimental to the public good, to peace and safety, and to common decency should be done.
Of course, your Libertarian ideas of "live and let live" sound good in theory, but inevitably fail in actual practice. Why? Basic human nature. A nature which God Almighty says is depraved, and wholly fallen, unable to think or to act in any truly good manner. Hence, laws.
John Adams said this: "Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the governance of any other." The man was absolutely right, and people like you just highlight how right he was.
I believe in "live and let live" thats why I am against you. I believe in a true reduction of laws not replacing what we have with a theocratic society.
You definition of a theocratic society differs quite a lot from the dictionary definition. "Live and let live" can work on a case by case basis, at a local level, to a limited degree, but to make it the law of the land would result in anarchy. You can be against me all you want. I don't answer to you. I answer to Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God, and it is Him whom I serve first. I am happy to be a citizen of the United States, but this country will pass away, as have all others, and only the Kingdom of God shall stand forever.
