Final Ping! We fought the good fight - now it is time to make things happen for Arnold (as long as he doesn't swing to the left).

You are correct about the Republicans. To bad for Tom but he has come out looking like the only bright one in the campaign, which he is. Are you joining the dog party? woof woof

i'm sure its easy to lay blame o the CA gop for abandoning Tom, yet from the prespective here in the east, with all the libs on the left coast he wouldn't have stood a snowballs chance in hell even if he had ARNOLDS endorsement. sacramento would have been gridlock till the next election and then all the blame would shift onto Tom. if arnold can't do it then we can still blame it on the dems!

I don't live in CA so it's not my business, but I would have loved to see McClintock in office. He sounds like the one to fix CA's economic problems and he certainly shares my values.
However I am ready to support the Governator now that he is in by such a large mandate. Arnold is a good man, and he will try his best to do a good job. He doesn't need the money or the fame, so he's not doing this for his own gain. Also we need to remember that this is CA, a different planet from the rest of the nation. If Arnold had straight conservative social policies as his platform, he'd be an outcast in LALA land, certainly in SF.
So we've got this Governator in office, with an R next to his name. I hope he is good for CA and for the Pubs in general. I am already enjoying the lamentations of the dems and nuts as their world teeters ever closer to the brink :)

Kudos to Tom from over here on the right coast for running a strong, positive campaign! I certainly hope his ideas are remembered and implemented - that would certainly be a positive step for California.
Rabid, please reconsider giving up on the Republican party. I believe it would be a lot easier to steer it in the proper direction from inside rather than pushing on it from the outside.
Your Humble Servant...

I voted for McClintock and I am proud of my vote. It hope he will be able to run against Boxer in the future, but it already sounds like Bill Jones has the inside track.

Tom McClintock has a future with the Republican party. He might have lost this race, but he's gained national respect. You backed a winner.

Tomorrow I am entering Freeper Detox and will be drying out for a week or so but am looking foward to discussing the changes in California under the leadership of our new governor - ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER!!I hear ya. I'm actually excited about getting back to my personal life tonight, its been a while since this populism first grabbed me on Feb 18th. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/846240/posts and the Out Of State Know It Alls said it couldn't be done. (pay special attention to #9, call it foreshadowing...kinda creepy) It was fun seeing all the DNC interviewed on the networks...suffering. They overplayed hand, while Bush is not really involved at all. I hope for his sake he doesn't change that policy because things aren't going to get any better than yesterday here.
Within a month it became clear that the CA G.O.P. was not an organization I could respect and support and so I have switched parties and will be changing my screen name to Rabid Dog.
Well Dog... I can relate. If someone would have asked me what I consider myself during the war, or any time before, I probably would have used the terms "Rabid Republican" myself. But this election, with the perfect Conservative candidate being sold out, attacked, threatened, marginalized, and hated-----things certainly have changed. I'm a Conservative again, not a Republican. History is repeated itself here you know---many of the large number of Independents in CA are disaffected Republicans from the past 2 GOP Govs...On the bright side, it feels really good not having to rationalize for the laundry list of GOP hypocracies though! I'll sleep alittle easier at night not going to bat for those politicians.
Well, I'm not going to be mean to the (R)nold Groupies at this point, it serves no purpose now. I can't say though that I am any less certain of his abject failure, but that won't be for a long time, and I'll give him a shot. I know you don't like pictures in this thread, but I consider it relevant...

So sorry about your problems. But you left the party, the party didn't leave you.
We all want more conservative leadership in power, but the "I want it all now or NOTHING thinking" only guarantees you NOTHING.
It wasn't McClintock or his supporters that did the right thing for this state in this election at all, they were off in some fantasy land the whole time.
This state started to turn around without you and McTombots and the "reasonable people" from all parties (including conservative democrats)did the real work and made sure a Republican was elected over Bustamante.
Tombots abdicated their responsibilities in this election if they voted for Tom. That was form over substance and dangerous.
Tom himself made a statement by never dropping out which I interpret as:
"I Tom McClintock am the only one for this state or nobody else can win. If you won't back me, I won't leave to help the party and will attempt to spoil. If the party loses and Bustamante wins, that is probably good for me in 2006, so my interest are served anyway. I don't care about the Republican party, the people of California or it's future....but be sure to back me in the future campaigns, especially against Boxer, because I am that dam important and special"
Rabid, career politicians can't screw the people and then expect to be welcome back.
If a dog bites you when you pet it only the stupid try and pet that dog again the same way...I am not stupid and at most only the % that voted for Tom in this election could ever be that stupid again IMO!
Have a good day.

My hat is off to you Tombots for your willingnss to fight and hang on.
That having been said, let me add that the one and ONLY reason that McClintock got a pass in this election and wound up doing 13% is that the rat media was proping me up as a way to beat Arnold.
If he runs against boxershorts she will beat him by a large margin. The rats will go into insane mode to protect her and they will slam him into the floor.
The guy's eyes make him look like a fruit fly, it seems like he's looking in three directions at once.
I still have no respect for him.

Rabid:
I'm sure I speak for many as I extend my sincere thanks for all of your positive, dignified efforts to get Tom's message across. You have done an excellent job in running this joint the past few weeks, encouraging lively discussion yet, at the same time, discouraging the crapola that has been sadly evident on so many other threads. You have been absolutely steadfast. I have no doubt that you will be generous in extending your support to our new Governor-Elect and, of course, I join you in that effort.
It is critical that we all pull together at this important moment in California's history. However, let me go on record as saying that if I am ever in a foxhole, I hope I'm in it with you and the rest of the "Tombots."
"Independent - I heard there are a lot of us on this forum!"
There are indeed. Enjoy "detox," and then come on aboard, the water's fine over here. :-)
