[history]
The Los Angeles Times and the Democrat corruption machine must be defeated!! No ifs, ands, or buts about it!
This is bigger than Schwarzenegger vs McClintock, bigger than Republican vs Democrat, and even bigger than conservative vs liberal. This is for our American way of life vs the dark side. Not just for California, but for all of America. The leadership of the Democrat Party and their official party platform of corruption, abortion, homosexualism, socialism, slavery to big government, slavery to over-taxation, slavery to terrorism and willing subjugation to foreign powers and world bodies is pure evil. Yes, I'd rather have a more conservative person than Arnold for California, but sorry folks, looks like the numbers aren't there. And I'm unwilling to take chances on allowing Davis to slip out of the recall or, even worse, to allow Bustamante to win the governorship.
Crushing liberalism is what Free Republic is all about. Gray Davis being recalled by the (mostly Democrat) people of California has got to be one of the greatest defeats for liberalism in recent history. And the additional rejection by the same democrat electorate of the ultra-liberal, illegal-alien-loving, tax-them-till-they-die, Cruz Bustamante will be the coup de grâce!
The Democrats are pulling out all the stops on this one. They see losing California as what it is, a death blow for liberalism. The people of California are sending the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, the Democrat Party, and Bill & Hillary Clinton a great big rejection slip!
No thanks! Your liberalism, socialism, corruption and evil murderous programs are not welcome!
Send them your own personal message and slap in the face and one they cannot misinterpret and will not soon forget.
Terminate Gray Davis! Terminate Cruz Bustamante! And terminate the idiot Democrat Party and their complicit partners in crime, the Los Angeles Times, et al!
Vote Yes on Recall and vote Yes for the Terminator!!

Well, I'll be - the picture of the handicapped woman shaking hands with Schwartzenegger brings back some wonderful memories of yesterday afternoon, since I was across the barrier from her. :)
Thanks for posting these - these are excellent photos. Haven't dumped our digital camera to computer yet, so I haven't peeked to see how our pics came out. But they'll get posted here sooner or later. :)

YES! The Dems brought all of their "heavy hitters" - both clintoons, Feinstein, McAuliffe, and all of the party workers to save Davis. If Davis is gone, they have all lost some prestige. And that will help all of us, everywhere. There's nothing that would warm my heart more than a loss for the clintoons. And this could be oneAnyone that can stuff Clintons, the lib media, the 9 dwarves, NOW, DavisBustamante, etc etc etc is more than OK in my book...

right now, the destruction of Gray Davis' political career, and the abrupt ending of his Administration is one of the most glorious political achievements I've ever witnessed Hmmmm.... one thing I haven't seen discussed in _any_ of the California recall threads is: how much of a "lame duck" period is there for the outgoing [recalled] Gray Davis? One day? One week? Is he "out" immediately after the Secretary of State certifies the election?
Even if the lame duck period lasts for but a few days, be on the lookout for collusion and a FLOOD of last-minute legislation, appointments, decrees and deals by the lame-duck Davis and the overwhelmingly Democratic state legislature.
Will Arnold be able to undo this damage? Will he be willing to do so? Remember the last-minute stuff by the Clintons? And remember how Dubya _did not_ act to repeal and revoke it?
Another thought: suppose a group like the ACLU decides to challenge the recall, on whatever grounds they choose. Will they be able to get a court, state or federal, to issue an injunction to bar the election winner (whom we presume to be Arnold) from assuming office until the court case is resolved? If that happens, will Davis REMAIN governor while the court case is pending? Again, this gives Davis and the legislature the opportunity to enact a lot of damage will will prove difficult for the Swarzenegger administration to undo.
Don't underestimate the Rats' attempts to sabotage the process in California (the way Texas Republicans found their politcal process sabotaged in Texas recently).
I will admit, as an out-of-stater, that earlier on it looked like Arnold couldn't win with McClintock in the race. Arnold has surged ahead not only on his popularity as a star, but also on the basis of his public appearances in which he has been able to articulate a vision for office. Good for him.
But the pig in the poke that remains to be seen is how much he will be able to actually _DO_ to "save California".
Just having a Republican as governor doesn't guarantee that the wheels of government below are going to spin to his tune. Arnold may be the best "helmsman" for the ship California at the moment (which is definitely headed Titanic-like for the iceberg), but when he turns the wheel, there is much between his hand and the rudder. And today, and also for the immediate future, that "machinery" is Democratic and "California liberal" (which we know is 'way to the left of "ordinary" liberal - laughs).
To paraphrase Isacc Newton, for every action The Governator takes, the Democratic legislature is going to RE-act in opposition. The harder Arnold "pushes", the harder they will "push back". It's NOT going to be easy.
I really don't see how Arnold, or ANYone, can deal with the state's financial disaster without reforms that will be, shall we say, draconian at least. There is NO way to get California's deficit under control with major budget cuts, layoffs, and outright repeal of laws and regulations that have gotten Caifornia to where it is now.
Does anyone here honestly think those laws and regulations are going to be repealed? By whom? By the governor? C'mon.
Cheers!
- John

Jim- excellent excellent post. Kudos.

And, as the proverb says: "A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step". Arnold is the first step. Darn, and I thought the proverb said: "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a leaky fan belt." LOL!
Now, let's get out there and vote for Arnold! (Thanks Jim, I know this one wasn't easy for you. But I admire you for making the tough call.)

The morons at LA Times. Lived in Claremont all last year in an apartment while my husband was working with Technip, designing an ethylene plant.... Tried THREE times to get the LA Times delivered to our door. They failed each time. They said maybe the carrier couldn't find our apartment.... our neighbor got the paper every day~
Finally I told them to FORGET IT. Then they wanted to bill me for the #$%&#! papers that we never received. They aren't the smartest people at the LA Times. Their elevator doesn't make it to the top floor ~ bunch of idiots!

Thanks for your thoughtful comments! One of the brightest hopes I have in all of this about Arnold is knowing that Eunice Shriver (and most of the Shrivers, honestly) are strongly PRO-LIFE. After all the trash that the left has thrown at her son-in-law, and her unqualified support of him anyway, despite the trash, maybe this is enough to pull him rightward. I'm praying for that.

I saw that! I am SO FED UP with Ceci Connolly on the Fox All-Stars panel, she makes me just want to hurl! That sanctimonious, pseudo-intellectual drivel she keeps spouting is just straight DNC/Mulholland talking points. Some other (respected) journalist took her apart a few months ago and pointed out all her dishonesty as a supposed "journalist". I wish I could find that article. . .and email it to FoxNews along with my strongly-worded opinion! (hee, hee!)

You raise a good question, and I don't know the answer to when Davis would be out. My hunch is that it would be as soon as the vote is certified. All the more reason to get out there and create a mandate for the recall. The larger the majority, the less likely that the Democrats will challenge the vote in court.

the competitive nature of politics ... yup!
It makes folks say strange things sometimes. Tom was a gentleman to the end, and any pointed remark or criticism of arnie was a calculated one, not intended as a personal atack, but a political one, imo. I'll leave it at that and I hope everyone else does too.
That arnie avoided any direct debate with tom was a smart move on arnie's part, he knew who was master of the facts in the pond we call the california budget and programs area.
Arnie is lucky celebrty bought him so much goodwill at the front end of his campaign and that he wasn;t hit harder earlier on in his campaign with all the vicious attacks.

Those two have been the benificiaries of too many free passes. I pray this tarnishes the "rock star" idolitary of that pair.

Thank you for this thread. It's hard to make the decision which goes against what you feel is best for society but I am so proud of you for making a decision which is best for California.
We can't let the slime at the LA Times work their bias once again.
The media had a lot to do with Simon's loss and unfortunately Simon wasn't very good at combating those charges.
