Following is the official biograph of Amb. Joseph Wilson, copyrighted by The Middle East Institution in 2002. Note that his wife's maiden name is given, although no mention is made of her occupation. Ambassador Wilson is CEO of JCWilson International Ventures, Corp., a firm specializing in Strategic Management and International Business Development.

Ambassador Wilson served as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for African Affairs at the National Security Council from June 1997 until July 1998. In that capacity he was responsible for the coordination of U.S. policy to the 48 countries of sub-Saharan Africa. He was one of the principal architects of President Clinton’s historic trip to Africa in March 1998.

Ambassador Wilson was the Political Advisor to the Commander-in-Chief of United States Armed Forces, Europe, 1995-1997. He served as the U.S. Ambassador to the Gabonese Republic and to the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe from 1992 to 1995. From 1988 to 1991, Ambassador Wilson served in Baghdad, Iraq as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy. During “Desert Shield” he was the acting Ambassador and was responsible for the negotiations that resulted in the release of several hundred American hostages. He was the last official American to meet with Saddam Hussein before the launching of “Desert Storm.”

No, Wilson himself was "raising a stink" because, according to him, "they" had dug up and released her maiden name. Just part of one of his recent rants. No one had to dig it up--it was right there on his bio.

Oh sure... Wilson has been whining about every angle under the sun, but the 'revelation' of his wife's maiden name has GOT to be the least significant aspect of this whole thing. Makes sense to point out that he was whining about it unreasonably, but not to suggest that makes the whole issue shrivel up and blow away. Its a largely irrelevant side point.

I agree with everything you said...except for the fact that it's Wilson himself who has made an issue of his wife's maiden name being made public.

This is really the fascinating part of the story...almost every ambassador has his wife deputized as a undercover agent...and she gets a check to help boost the poor ambassadors salary. Not of these guys get paid that much and the reports that the wives usually turn in...are juicy gossip provided from these stupid coffee and tee parties that they hold. Its awful stupid to classify anything that they pick up as actual classified information, and someone ought to ask more questions about that than about this whole who told who thing.

Everything about this case is insignificant, especially the case itself. There is no "there" there. That doesn't stop the press from running with it. And it's also instructive to the populace, if they're paying attention. (No guarantees there.) Wilson and his 'rat friends are demonstrating to one and all that for for a 'rat, lying is as natural as breathing.

While Freepers and others are exposing these lies, perhaps one might next ponder the reason for them. Surely they knew they'd be found out, so what are they trying to cover up? Could this entire "scandal" (such as it is) be coming out now because otherwise, the news from the Bush admin would be pretty good? Certainly, the stories about the caught spies and successes in Iraq are being eclipsed by all this "much ado about nothing" stuff coming from the 'rat party.
