New Poll Shows Californians Widely Favor Recall, Schwarzenegger
AP ^ | 9/28/03 | Erica Werner and Jim Wasserman
Posted on 09/28/2003 2:45 PM PDT by kattracks
SANTA MARIA, Calif. (AP) - With the campaign to recall Gov. Gray Davis entering its final full week, a poll released Sunday showed the Democrat could lose office by a wide margin and put Arnold Schwarzenegger way ahead of everyone else trying to become governor of California. Schwarzenegger barnstormed around California on Sunday, talking to invited crowds in airport hangars, while all the other major candidates seeking to replace Davis gathered for a public forum in Sacramento....

Reading the reversals
U.S. News ^ | 10/06/03 | Michael Barone
Posted on 09/28/2003 8:01 PM PDT by Pokey78
History doesn't move in straight lines. Things go that way for a while, and then there is a reversal--and perhaps another reversal. The hard thing about understanding history as it happens is distinguishing those reversals that turn out to be significant from the zigs that will be followed by zags. Last week was filled with reversals. Which ones will turn out to be significant? ....

Threat of spoiler's role doesn't faze McClintock
By BETH FOUHY, Associated Press
SAN FRANCISCO - With little more than a week left in California's recall race, Arnold Schwarzenegger is trying to make his victory seem inevitable. But his Republican rival isn't going away.
Conservative state Sen. Tom McClintock has stuck firmly - obstinately, some say - to his pledge to race to the end, even at the risk of splitting the GOP vote and allowing Demo-crats to stay in power if Gov. Gray Davis is recalled....

Recall High Anxiety By Tammy Bruce FrontPageMagazine.com | September 26, 2003
Earlier this week a disturbing tune had begun to infiltrate my conversations with friends. Both Republicans and Democrats (yes, I have pals who hail from both camps), began to express something which I can only describe as Recall Fatigue. Even though were being bombarded with messages by people who do not have our best interests in mind, its too important a time to tire.
Many of my Democrat friends, most of whom had signed the recall petition and were looking forward to voting Yes on the ballot, began to respond to the cries that poured out of the Democratic Party that the sky was falling and democracy would be destroyed if we, uh, used it....

Awesome Arnold - Triumphs in Calif. poll, declares war on Davis
New York Daily News ^ | 9/29/03 | JAMES GORDON MEEK in Washington DAVE GOLDINER in New York
Posted on 09/29/2003 1:35 AM PDT by kattracks
Arnold Schwarzenegger flexed his political muscle yesterday as a new poll showed him blasting Gov. Gray Davis into oblivion - even if a GOP rival stays in the recall race.
With just a week to go before the Total Recall election, a buoyant Ah-nold talked about the politically wounded Davis as if he were some bloodied bad guy in a "Conan" flick.
"This is now hand-to-hand combat," said Schwarzenegger, who barnstormed across the state. "We are in the trenches. This is war." ....

Tooday Show Recall Segment: Katie Sheaths Claws as Smarmy Dem Chairman Whistles Past Graveyard
Posted on 09/29/2003 4:48 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest
Is there any more slimy, phony, unctuous, smarmy [did I miss anything?] pol than Art Torres, head of the California Dem party?
There was Torres on The Today Show this morning, doing his best whistling-past-the-graveyard shtick in the light of the newly-released CNN/USA Today polls that, from his perspective, are an utter disaster.
The polls show the 'Yes' on recall vote outpacing the 'No's' by almost 30%. And as for the race to replace Davis, Arnold has pulled ahead to a whopping 15% lead over Busta.
Torres actually claimed not to be concerned by the devastating CNN/USA Today poll, suggesting that the Dems' internal polls show a much closer race. He used an interesting trick in describing the results of his own poll....

The Schizophrenic Times(LA Times caught lying about Recall)
polipundit.com ^ | 9/29/03

Monday, September 29, 2003 The Schizophrenic Times
Two pieces on the LA Times web site accuse that new Gallup poll showing the recall at 63 percent of:
1. Using a high turnout model: "The poll of 787 registered voters used a model for probable voters that assumes a relatively high 50 percent turnout among the state's voting age population."
2. Using a low turnout model: "The CNN-USA Today poll, conducted among 1,007 Californians between Thursday and Saturday, assumed a low turnout of 51% lower than election officials expect in determining which were the most likely voters."
Memo to lying liberal media: I realize you're in a state of denial about the recall. But at least try to get your stories straight when you lie to your readers. posted by PoliPundit at 5:04 AM Link to this post....

Poll Vault: California Voters Flocking to the Governator (Arnold over Busta by 15%)
New York Post ^ | September 29, 2003 | David K. Li
Posted on 09/29/2003 6:56 AM PDT by dead
LOS ANGELES - Arnold Schwarzenegger has muscled his way to a commanding lead in California's recall campaign, according to the results of a stunning poll released yesterday. A Gallup survey commission by CNN and USA Today showed Golden State voters poised to pink-slip Gov. Gray Davis and install political newcomer Schwarzenegger as their leader.
Davis' recall has the support of 63 percent of voters, compared with 35 percent who oppose it, according to the poll.
It also shows a pumped-up Schwarzenegger with a formidable lead, 40 percent to 25 percent, over his closest rival, Democratic Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante....

No and nobody; THE RECALL IS NOT A SOLUTION TO STATE'S PROBLEMS; VOTE NO
San Jose Mercury News ^ | 9/28/03
Posted on 09/29/2003 8:19 AM PDT by SteveH
From the day the first petition was signed, recalling Gov. Gray Davis looked like a simplistic, illusory solution for the state's real problems.
The recall is no solution to the state's budget crisis, no solution for struggling schools, and no solution -- quite the opposite -- for the poisonous partisanship that prevents the Legislature from finding solutions on issues from energy to health care.
The seven months of paid-for signature-gathering, partisan ma- neuvering, legal hair-splitting and political campaigning since then have made the recall look even worse.
Californians should vote ``no'' on the recall....

Good morning, my friend,
You might want to add to the thread my article of a month ago, "Nuts and Bolts in California," which was published on UPI, Chronwatch, a couple of websites, and here on FreeRepublic. That article is more than a month old, but in its final days this election is shaping up exactly as I predicted.

Latest column, "Democrats Dancing to Tunes of Glory?," discussion thread on FR. Article will likely be on ChronWatch.

Arnold? A Conservative Take
Posted on 09/28/2003 11:54 PM PDT by Simi Valley Tom
Is Arnold Swarzenegger really a fiscal conservative?
Swarzenegger has clearly said that he supports government health care, the welfare state, our socialist education system, and doing little or nothing to send back the illegal aliens who have broken our immigration laws. Tom McClintock, the true fiscal conservative Republican in the governor's race, wisely said that considering raising taxes in an emergency, as Arnold said he would consider, is the last thing a fiscal conservative would do because an emergency is exactly the time to lower taxes and increase tax incentives to stimulate recovery....
