Border Patrol Stops Immigrants' 'Freedom Ride' Buses
Yahoo News ^ | 9-26-03 | AP-Chris Roberts

EL PASO, Texas - Two buses carrying nearly 100 people making a "Freedom Ride" to bring attention to mistreatment of undocumented immigrants were stopped for nearly four hours Friday at a U.S. Border Patrol station.

The riders were asked to leave the buses and were questioned, said Hilda Delgado, a spokeswoman on the buses. All were later released, and the buses were back on the road to San Antonio by about noon.

Border Patrol officials in El Paso confirmed that two buses were stopped, but said they were still gathering information. A message left at the checkpoint near Sierra Blanca, 75 miles east of El Paso, wasn't immediately returned.

Delgado, who said she is a U.S. citizen from Los Angeles, wouldn't say whether any of the individuals on the buses were in the country illegally. She said they held up Freedom Ride cards to officials who questioned them.

The cards say that the ride is peaceful, that they exercise their right to remain silent, that they don't consent to a search and don't give up any rights. The card also has the name of a lawyer to contact.

"We have been singing solidarity songs on the bus," Delgado said. "We are trying to expose the injustice of current policies toward immigrants."

Delgado said the people on the bus represent 10 million undocumented immigrants who contribute $730 million each year to the U.S. economy.

"They want to reunite with their families and contribute to the economy," she said. "Our immigration laws need a road to citizenship."

The cross-country caravan, backed by organized labor, began Saturday. Nearly 1,000 people were to join the ride, with 18 buses planning stops in communities including Washington and New York.

The lying weasels. They felt they were in danger of getting caught! But see how quickly people catch on to the scam of the moment.

What I suspect is these radical Marxists who planned the bus routes deliberately chose I-10 but also more northern routes where there are no border patrols checking. I think what they did was put citizens and green card holders on the most southern route but the illegals were shipped on the northern routes. What they would have liked was a big incident to make border patrol agents look bad ---- show legals being deported or held in holding cells.

The invasion of America has got to stop. Why are we spending billions in Iraq when we can't even have a policy that is fully acted on to defend our own borders?

Isn't that one of the primary reasons to have a government in the first place?

Isn't that one of the primary reasons we pay taxes? I'd rather see my tax dollars go for defense of my country's borders than used as welfare for illegals.

What the hell is Fox doing in power if he cannot do anything but send over his people to America? Maybe America should take over Mexico until they can get their act together.

Moreover, were these two bus loads of illegal aliens coming to California to cast their vote for No Recall/Vote Bustamante? Was this arranged by the desparate democrat party?

That's the plain truth, Jeff. It still beggars the imagination to see how our so-called representatives have left the floodgates wide open to illegals.

At least the reporter got it right and called them illegal aliens, not "undocumented immigrants", or some other such tripe.

Those rights are for american citizens, not those who don't respect the borders, laws, and culture of our nation.

When numb nuts Tom Ridge says we can't close the borders to illegals "because of political and cultural" reasons, just how "secure" is Homeland Security?

I suggest we just scrap Homeland Security Dept, BATF, FBI, CIA, DIA, NSA, and the rest of the alphabet soup and save the taxpayers some real money.

Why have a "pretense" of law enforcement at all?

GWB just LOVES selective law enforcement.

Most are too wrapped up in what they perceive as the "ploitical issues" asspociated with it...a plain english translation fo that means that they are using it to ensure or protect their won political careers. I suppose they honestly believe that the rest of us will just sit back and take it so they focus on what they believe is a powerful special interest group.

Well, it's time we show them that the honest, hard-working, God-fearing citizens of this nation are the real interest group and that we do so by sending all of these scoundrels and vipers packing.

Then there are those who are pushing this, abetting it and participating in it with a will...and that will has an avowed purpose to destroy this nation and our liberties as we know them. Those folks are true domestic enemies and deserve a big tall tree and a short length of rope.

My bad. Pardon the typos, I am pretty worked up over this. That should be:

"ploitical issues" asspociated with it...a plain english translation fo that means that they are using it to ensure or protect their won political careers.

should be...

"political issues" associated with it...a plain english translation for that means that they are using it to ensure or protect their own political careers.

It is frustrating...and it's also very, very dangerous and threatening to all we hold dear...just as the terrorist are.

It is continuing on unabated under the cover of our other efforts against the terrorists who would also destroy us.

It does have to stop...soonest!

"... to bring attention to mistreatment of undocumented immigrants..."

And just what mistreatment would that be?

"$87 Billion for reconstructing Iraq - how about a billion or two for reconstructing/securing the southern U.S. border?"

Good point. I would argue that the current open border policy is far more harmful to the U.S. than Sadam Hussein ever was in Iraq.

Truth is Jeff...the more this data runs thru the media trough..the more background interest groups with fiscal agendas see their future designs come to reality.

Insurance and banking are ground floor supporters of a national ident system...chip technology.

Illegals run amuck..while your freedoms are eroded under the premise of national security.

Anyone seen the "Verichip bus lately"?

Noted here in my AO that Churches sponsor immigration en masse. Can't swing a dead cat here with hitting a OTM ect ect..... I walk into a business where they don't speak english I take my dollars and walk out. I dropped my doctor for just just a reason also. Little pakistani sort I called "Guru Bob" and his indian nurse/wife "Spot"......could'nt understand em so had to change my primary care doctor.

Anger and hate is alive and well and reverse discrimination breeds discrimination IMO. As long as employment , college and loan applications have race and sex on em then our nation promotes hate.

Did ya see the recent UT bake sale thread ? Socialists could'nt chew and swallow their own recipe for hate. Yet they try and force such down the throats of all legal immigrants and natural born "Native" Americans.

Stay Safe Jeff............
