8.0 Earthquake in Japan

I just got an EDIS alert that there was an 8.0 quake near Hokkaido, Japan. Tsunami warnings for AK. No news sources yet that I can find...

EVALUATION

SEA LEVEL READINGS INDICATE A TSUNAMI WAS GENERATED. IT MAY HAVE
BEEN DESTRUCTIVE ALONG COASTS NEAR THE EARTHQUAKE EPICENTER AND
COULD ALSO BE A THREAT TO MORE DISTANT COASTS. AUTHORITIES SHOULD
TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION IN RESPONSE TO THIS POSSIBILITY. THIS
CENTER WILL CONTINUE TO MONITOR SEA LEVEL DATA TO DETERMINE THE
EXTENT AND SEVERITY OF THE THREAT.

FOR ALL AREAS - WHEN NO MAJOR WAVES ARE OBSERVED FOR TWO HOURS
AFTER THE ESTIMATED TIME OF ARRIVAL OR DAMAGING WAVES HAVE NOT
OCCURRED FOR AT LEAST TWO HOURS THEN LOCAL AUTHORITIES CAN ASSUME
THE THREAT IS PASSED. DANGER TO BOATS AND COASTAL STRUCTURES CAN
CONTINUE FOR SEVERAL HOURS DUE TO RAPID CURRENTS. AS LOCAL
CONDITIONS CAN CAUSE A WIDE VARIATION IN TSUNAMI WAVE ACTION THE
ALL CLEAR DETERMINATION MUST BE MADE BY LOCAL AUTHORITIES.

ESTIMATED INITIAL TSUNAMI WAVE ARRIVAL TIMES. ACTUAL ARRIVAL TIMES

Yep. Also, a pretty strong (aftershock) earthquake at 6:08 a.m. local (5:08 p.m. Eastern), occurred about 20 minutes after the first massive earthquake. The earthquake readings are coming in from the aftershocks at this point.

There was one in the Director's Cut/Special Edition, along with a LOT of other deleted scenes.

Yes, indeed. The photo involved is from The Poseidon Adventure in response to an earlier photo on the thread. Sorry if I alarmed anybody.

Also, it's one of the errors of the movie, in that a tsunami will generally have little effect on a ship on the open ocean. The damage from a tsunami occurs on the coasts when the swell builds and forms a wave as it reaches shallow water.

At the point he replied, we all doubted this was real. There were no reports of death or anything at the time. It looked like a hoax, as we thought it was referring to a 6.0 earthquake in Japan two days ago.

Huge Tsunamis and Earthquakes are scary but nothing new.
