Fairfax Water was off this morning, now back on here but the water is very dirty. They say you can drink it after you boil it for at least a minute but I wouldn't.
They need to flush the lines and test the water before it's safe to drink, maybe another 24 hours.
At least we can flush the toilets without using a bucket how.

We drove around on the GW Parkway and then walked around Georgetown - the Potomac is high but didn't see any flooding - this was around 5pm so not high tide.
BUT - the W&OD canal was almost empty. They must have the locks closed to prevent flooding.
On the radio they said that Old Town is flooded to the intersection of King and Union, but it does that after a heavy rain. It already flooded at least once this past summer.

Last night in WNC was a bit unusual. No damage, of course, our mountains sheltered us from anything bad. But it was WINDY -- far more so than was the case during Floyd. I would guess that between 8-11pm we were getting a fairly steady, brisk breeze in the 10-15 mph range, with periodic strong gusts into the 20-30 mph range. We don't often get that much wind. This was probably about twice the wind speeds that we saw with Floyd. I don't mention this to suggest any comparison with what you folks farther east went though, just an interesting little FYI footnote.
Someday one of those things will punch through the mountains and dump a couple feet of rain on us, then it will be our turn to suffer!

I'm going through power withdrawal, and failing miserably. Poor VOC is being patient with me though. I just heard that it could be DAYS before we get power back!

-Dio, safe in California with people from many planetsDo they have generators? If they do, steal them.
We have a generator that wouldn't start.

very, very low blood pressure, violent heart burn, and some liver numbers didn't come back right My mom did that to herself after she hurt her back, taking WAAAAY too much Ibuprofen and Motrin and drinking wine. Perforated her stomach and lost a lot of blood, and didn't realize it.
Internal bleeding from over-the-counter painkillers is more dangerous than people realize. They figure it's over-the-counter so it can't be dangerous.

Good to hear from you and that you are safe and sound. It's great hearing that your son-in-law is okay for now and that he will follow up with more tests.

Hi - just checking in. I have been outside cleaning up, with about 5% finished. :-(
I'm glad to see you're back and to hear that it was NOT a heart attack. We all have a lot to be thankful for after weathering this storm!

From our local news site:
Problems still persisted late Friday afternoon in the NBC 10 viewing area and across the entire state of Pennsylvania as many households and businesses were in the dark.
Power crews were working around the clock to restore power.
PECO said late Friday afternoon that 305,000 customers are still without power. Most of them are in Chester and Delaware counties. More than 140,000 people were out of power in Chester County alone. Repair crews will be working through the weekend.

I was a good girl and heeded the authorities request to stay home if possible.
There's too many 2 lane roads around here with trees on both sides and powers lines and water - I thought home was the best place.
I do plan to venture out tomorrow to see what's up - because local news on radio or TV is practically nonexistent - I need to stop and some of the local stores!!!
