We drove around on the GW Parkway and then walked around Georgetown - the Potomac is high but didn't see any flooding - this was around 5pm so not high tide.

BUT - the W&OD canal was almost empty. They must have the locks closed to prevent flooding.

On the radio they said that Old Town is flooded to the intersection of King and Union, but it does that after a heavy rain. It already flooded at least once this past summer.

I was a good girl and heeded the authorities request to stay home if possible.

There's too many 2 lane roads around here with trees on both sides and powers lines and water - I thought home was the best place.

I do plan to venture out tomorrow to see what's up - because local news on radio or TV is practically nonexistent - I need to stop and some of the local stores!!!

I rather fondly remember the W&OD jogging and bike trails, but canal? They've been busy along that old RR right-of-way since I left.

;)

Used to live in Herndon and would sometimes cycle out to Reston, or (while still durable in my 30s) run out to Merrifield and back.
