Web cams in past storms tend to stop recording well before the full force of a storm arrives--prolly because the owner brought them inside for safekeeping.

Good news for RTP--sort of...

Because Isabel is expected to continue moving through the state at nearly 20 mph... rainfall amounts... though heavy... should be somewhat limited by the duration of the storm. Rainfall of four to six inches is possible in the northern coastal plain. Lesser amounts are expected southwest... and storm total rainfall amounts should taper off quickly quickly to the southwest of Interstate 40. If Isabel should slow down or deviate slightly west... rainfall amounts could be heavier and heavy rain could spread further west.

People should be prepared for power outages. If high winds are forecast for your location... remove items from the yard that could be sent air borne by the winds. Residents living in manufactured housing should inspect and secure tie-Downs.

Lots of sea foam, I guess. :-)

Too bad we can't see it; we'd be able to watch it come right on in.

If you have just bought a generator I suggest you hook up the applicaces you plan to power and test it TODAY. If you have never operated a chainsaw before, I also suggest you practice on something today under controlled conditions. And last but not least, make sure you keep your toilet paper dry.

If you bought a generator, I hope you bought a carbon monoxide detector, too.

And then there is this story:

N.C. man testing generator burns down his house

A Pitt County man preparing for Hurricane Isabel burned down his home while testing a generator, authorities said.

The generator malfunctioned and caught fire, sending flames quickly through his one-story house, which was gutted.

Hugh Mills Jr., who was the only one home when the fire started Monday, was not injured. The fire began in a garage after Mills plugged in the generator.

Simpson Fire Chief Johnnie Mayo described the house as a total loss with no belongings saved. By the time authoriites arrived, flames had engulfed the house, he said.

Authorities warned that generators should be used outside to prevent fires and accumulation of carbon monoxide.

Not quite (hurricanes are incredibly unpredictable), but it sure looks like it's taking dead aim at the RATs in the Senate.

Good thing he didn't test it during the hurricane. Bet he was part of the Democratic Undergroung trying to follow their advice.
