Hurricane Isabel is falling apart and fast. Re-Con planes have been flying in the storm since midnight and the entire west quad of the storm has disappeared. The eastern portion of the storm has a wind around 110KTS. There is discussion that re-strengthening will occour within 24 hours though so this still remains a threat.
Pressure has dramatically risen as well. Discussion currently is Isabel making landfall in either Northern South Carolina or Southern North Carolina and a due north move after landfall. Thinking is a landfalling Category 2 minimal 3 storm.

All that will happen is some leaky roofs will need some buckets under them. Hopefully you're correct, but some of the areas it's heading for are already experiencing flooding problems, so even if the wind keeps diminishing, it could be a problem.
We got 4-1/2 inches of rain within a few hours from Tropical Storm Henri a week or 2 ago, and we weren't really in one of the areas that was expected to.

I notice they've switched the projected path back southward again.

This is a really interesting link.
Pick a storm from a previous year and follow the path with your mouse. A pop up box will list the changes in Category and wind speed as the storm progressed.
I know Andrew and Mitch both intensified just before landfall, but I followed their paths and it was a pretty constant intensification along their approach to land

I have noticed just in the last 1 hour that there is some solid convection building around the center. I am curious to see if this will be at 120 at the 11 AM Update.

I just went back to the site I referred to and plugged in Floyd.
Wasn't that the storm that caused awful flooding???
Anyway, it's strengh diminished as it headed toward NC and it followed a very similar path.

Thanks for posting all the updates and satellite photos. I hope it continues to weaken. I don't think people should discount the danger of this storm.

red x?
actually, it's displaying a jpg that says "We apologize for the inconvenience, but we are no longer able to provide the image you requested. To see the image, please go to www.weather.com. Thank you."
if I cut the url for that jpg and paste it in my browser address, weather.com produces the photo... and when I come back, it's still buffered and displays. that's just weird :o)
