I just had to tell everyone about our amazing church service today. Our Pastor, Mark Toone, (conservtive hehehe) has been leading our congregation into ever more evangelical waters. Also, today was the second "edition" of a new service called "11:27" which features lots of contemporary Christian music and singing to reach more young people. Pastor Toone is an incredible preacher, and even though I was not disposed towards this different (and 3rd ) service - it was WONDERFUL!

Pastor Toone had a serious ice skating accident last month and he has just returned with renewed passion: in fact, he's on fire. His sermon today was to "PRESENT' oneself to the Lord. He talked about the first sacrifices, (animal/blood) but how we are now called to be "living sacrifices." He recalled the Lord's healing hands, then asked everyone to come to the front and in the aisles, blessed them on the forehead, then had us turn around and pass the blessings all the way to the back of the crowd. (600-700 perople.) LOL For shy Presbyterians it's a big deal! Anyway, I had to wipe away tears it was so moving... I love Chapel Hill - and feel so blessed to be led by such a man who is so obviously led by Jesus. Have a joyous Sunday everyone! Thank you Lord for our many awesome blessings. May we indeed "present ourselves" completely to you, that our lives may be acceptable in your sight.

My introduction to Spirit-led and Spirit-filled worship was in 1980, and know full well the wonders of Praise and Worship Services.

The Lord said to make a joyful noise before Him;
and that He would inhabit our praises!!
To discover that as truth is to find a whole new dimension of worship!

My location is 'iffy.'
Am in Barnwell, SC, on the western side of the state (think Savannah River Nuclear Site just to the west of me) away from the coast - but as huge as this one is, if it goes in between Savannah and Myrtle Beach, we will definitely feel the effect.

Two years ago, a remnant of a hurricane that visited your state, MEG, came through here on its Last Gasp. Unfortunately, my house is just below the airport (only small light craft) and all water runoff comes down the gentle slope and through a runoff stream that forms the back two sides of my corner lot.

We had TEN INCHES of rain fall between 9 p.m. and 1 a.m., and there was a foot of water in the now LAKE of a front yard!
Even worse was the fact they had just finished installing larger storm drains through the intersection at the end of the block, and paved it.
The flow was so strong coming down the street, it ripped up room-sized pieces of fresh asphalt and deposited them on my lawn, as it coursed across and over to the runoff stream...:>(

The side street was completely torn up by those chunks and had to be resurfaced.
They were great about removing all the asphalt from the lawn.

The other bad part is the double concrete driveway slopes down from the street to the closed in carport-now-porch....left a foot of water in it, six inches of which was slimy mud.
Ever try to pressure hose water uphill??
At least the house itself was fine, two steps higher....

I was born and reared in Florida, though, and lived there in later years, too, MEG - am an old hand at hurricanes up and down the East Coast - several in Virginia and South Carolina in past years.

When I was 10, I actually had a cow named Mabel and sometimes milked her! Had Muscovy ducks, and horses, and turkeys named Phyllis and Forrest after my parents' friends - -

Neighbors gave me a goat named Nancy, but she wasn't sweet like you, Nan..:))
My older sister teased her and taught her to charge.
That was all right until the day Daddy went out in the yard and failed to see the locomotive coming, head down, and sailed through the air!!

By nightfall, he had traded her with another neighbor for bantam chickens for me - LOL

We had 1,000 acres and sold down to 640, southwest of Melbourne, Florida.
It wasn't a farm or ranch - Daddy was an engineer, and needed a location in the central part of the state to get to projects.

It was a radical departure from the first nine and a half years in Coral Gables, Florida.

The most destructive storm in the Houston area recently(2yrs plus) was a tropical storm,low pressure system that didn't move.Flooded major hospitals,homes and was a mess.I don't recall the amount of rain but it was a lot.

Hoping somehow this storm moves away from land!

I tried milking a cow when we went on a family vacation to our farm in upstate N.Y. It was a disaster, but we had a lot of laughs. Just knew you would be better at milking cows then I

LOL, never churned butter but I bet I would be much more successful at doing that.

My brothers are Engineers, another thing we have in common.

My concern is for good friends who live at Emerald Isle, North Carolina.

That is at the southeast tip of North Carolina, about dead center of where it looks as if it might go.

They live a block over from the beach on a high hill, and see the ocean clearly - no worry about flooding, but a Category 4 or 5 storm can blow them badly. Like many houses, it is up high on stilts.

They have a generator, and can board up the glass expanses, but wisely will go farther inland to an uncle's house if it is a Biggie .

Best to go to their uncle's house. A few days ago, I thought for sure this storm was heading right for Florida, in particular the area where my Step-Dad just bought his new house. Thoughts are with your friends.

That looks like a serious hurricane DH, the people on the east coast need to get ready for that one.

I know things can change overnight with a hurricane.

I flunked the only effort I made at milking but I churned butter a lot of times.During the war we had chickens,a large Victory garden,a cow and a goat at the edge of town.I was great at tending to the chickens.

Canning was patriotic !
