Wow! That Roll Call article puts all this in perspective, doesn't it? It's good to read that during a time when the mainstream media, the Democrats, and some skittish Republicans are trying to write Bush off after ONE poll!

think what you want, but the jobless numbers just keep going up.

That would be scary if it were true.

Zogby is probably right, whether freepers want to believe it or not. this joblessness in the country is really starting to piss people off.

Huh and Reagan won a massive landslide in 84 when the unemployment rate in Nov. 82 was 10.8%.

The unemployment rate is now 6.1%.

I think Bush could make some money off this problem by fixing the H-1B thing and doing something about exporting jobs - on the face of it, I'm not sure what as yet. But he needs to make more noise about it, that's for sure.

Any noise GW makes on these topics would not help, he supports both.

As my wise old Pappy used to say, "If you torture the numbers long enough, you can make them say anything you want." For example, did you know that 20% of sick days fall on Mondays?

I recall Zogby was the only one to predict the 2000 election

No, he wasn't. First of all, absolutely ZERO pollsters predicted the outcome of '00, as it happened. No one said "popular vote to one, electoral college to the other".

But, every election cycle, Zogby is touted as the "most accurate". Let's be clear: John Zogby, of the Zogby Poll, made his name predicting the Republican takeover of Congress in 1994. Since then, he's been fair to middling, with no exclusive results to speak of.

It appears the rule of thumb is to look back one or two elections and state unequivocally that Zogby was the sole pollster who called it. This actually happened once, 9 years ago.

Rush calls it the Zombie poll...

That's interesting, because Rush once suggested that Zogby was the most reliable one out there. Didn't Rush once commission a poll by Zogby? I seem to remember something like that.

When polls don't go our way, it's always tempting to diss the messenger.

A drop like this is hardly surprising and not reason for dispair. We have an economy that is 2 years into recession with the 09/11/2001 attacks and only now is the economy starting to recover. We have multiple presidential hopefuls plus the past stain in the Oval Office and his hopeful wife and their lap dog DNC chair plus a hungry press who HATES Crawford Texas in August. Gee, do I need to draw a map - right now I think that GWB is at the low point but that there is a lot of room for going up in the coming year.

Zogby Poll = Field Poll = Telephone poll of 200 Democrats from either Costa Mesa or New Haven. These polls are fronts for the DNC, and you can automatically skew the results at least 20 points in the direction of the conservative subject.

If Zogby has Bush's approval rating at 45%, that means at least 65% of America (you know, that big forgotten mass of land between New York and California) approves of the President's job.

The only people who take these polls seriously are simpletons who allow the lib media to influence their opinions and thought patterns. Don't be a dummy. :-)

There was a national review story yesterday that showed that Bush is ten to fifteen points ahead of every president for the past five at year three. Zogby and all the rest forget that a pol is not the same as walking into a booth and putting your soul on the line. IN 2002 people voted for Bush by voting Republican.

Please answer my question: didn't Rush used to say that Zogby was the most reliable one out there? Didn't Rush once commission a poll by Zogby, turning to Zogby precisely because he trusted him more than most pollsters?

I think this was because Zogby predicted the GOP takeover of Congress, or had some similar forecast that set him apart. He also forecast a close race in 2000, when other pollsters had a significant Bush lead, at least until their final polls.

When the results aren't comforting, is that a reason to blame the messenger - - - especially when Rush used to hype him?

Thanks, I don't mind being corrected on this since I usually don't like what Zogby comes up with anyway.
