A limited quantity of whole milk will be available to children and staff upon request.

Drink skim milk, it's better. Not necessarily. Calcium (important for kids' growing bones) is not well absorbed without the fat.
And recently there was a Finnish study that showed a correlation between drinking whole milk, and resistance to asthma.
Besides, skim milk tastes like dishwater. My kids won't drink it -- and neither will I.
BTW, sending your kids to school with lactase pills would probably get them expelled since the "zero tolerance" standards simply prohibit such a thing.
If you informed school officials you were sending harmless lactase tablets, and those officials continued to act like idiots, then what are you doing sending your kids to be [mis]educated at such a pathetic school, anyway?

Drink skim milk, it's better. It's white water! I'll keep drinking my 'butter' thank you.
(I could use some extra ballast anyway ;-)

These people are NUTS. For cryin' out loud, kids NEED fats. At least they're not completely getting rid of dairy, that would be a sin.
My children would look emaciated if they had to eat all that low-fat crap.

Actually, this is one of the better school systems in the country. After all, Fairfax County, Virginia is America's richest county!
That doesn't mean the teachers are not a$$h0les.

BTW, there's another couple of Finnish studies that demonstrate that for the Sami (Lapplanders) if the milk is not fermented, the kids will suffer intense abdominal pain.
I'd like to note for the record that raindeer milk is about 23% butterfat. You probably wouldn't want to drink that right off hand, but it's certainly "whole"!
They make a cheese out of it that needs quite a bit of aging to get rid of the lactose. They also ferment it. I don't recall the name at the moment, but the Mongols, Koreans, Hungarians and Estonians all use the same word for this "milk" (with no lactose).
Many "white" Americans have trouble with "whole milk", "skim milk", unaged cheese, cottage cheese, cheesecake, etc. and don't realize the source. American Indians, descendants of central Africans, and almost all East Asian people have this problem.

I've heard of Fairfax county, and what I've heard about the public schools there is that their quality is going down, down, down. Just like everywhere else.
Minor point, but I don't think Fairfax is the country's richest county anymore. Last I heard, it was Hunterdon County, New Jersey. Reason I remember that is I live near that county (though not in it).
A wealthy community doesn't necessarily guarantee good public schools, anyway. Actually, there are no good public schools left, IMO.

Gee, when my kid is in school he can have buttermilk, whole milk, 2% milk, 1% milk, skim milk, canned milk, powdered milk, soy milk, goats milk, chocolate milk, Milk Duds or no milk at all. OUR choice.
Homeschooling. Teaching my kid how America should be, (used to be), since 1999.

My school-age child is liberal intolerant -- it's called "LIS" or Liberal Intolerant Syndrome. Whenever liberal ideas are taught it causes a severe reaction -- it causes the brain to turn to mush. Can I get leftist liberal indoctrination banned from my child's school? It has health consequences after all.

Is this supposed to be bad? Yes. Milk is nutrious and relatively inexpensive. It is good for a lot of people. The motivation, by the way, is to fight obesity. I think this measure will end up being counterproductive.
Nobody is suggesting that people should be forced to drink milk.

For the first nine years of my education (I am 54), we didn't have a cafeteria at school. We had a large, expensive cafeteria which severed awful hot lunches that nobody ate.
But I'm sure having them made a lot of people feel like they "cared."

The schools here were catering...
Sigh... What do you expect when you're being fed by the government and do menu planning by commitee. Someone is going to be unhappy. It might as well be you.
To: muawiyah
BTW, you ever try to get the school to allow your kid to bring in a small refrigerator sufficient to keep milk sanitary until "late lunch" at 1 PM? No, I have not asked that question. I'm still waiting for the response from the last question I asked them, "Can I be present when you cover history?".
No other advice than to get your kids out of that school and or school system - something is whacked out there.
On a "mental" health note, my 9 yr old told me tonight that when he asked his teacher if he could bring in a "medal" (picture of the Statue of Lib - saying "Let Freedom Ring") given to him by his Uncle, to commerate 9/11, tomorrow morning - his teacher said, "No, you don't have enough points accumulated in "show and tell" to do that.
I told my boy to ask, as soon as they get in class, the teacher if they can have a moment of silence for the 2,800 American citizens that lost their lives in the terrorist attack two years ago.
Just so happens that "Open House" for the school is tomorrow. I'll be asking the boy what happened.
I have a strong feeling that I'll be having another very one sided lecture with a young, brainwashed, 'Rat product of the "higher" liberal learning institutes of "knowledge".
Won't be the first time, won't be the last. I enjoy every one.
BTW, your kid's intolerance to milk is not a reason to make the "system" change.

If you go to the web site www.milksux you will find lots of imformation about how no one over age 3 is able to digest the milk sugar lactase and that as the lactase moves through the body it does all sorts of damage. Check out Roger Mason's web site Young Again Nutrients and you will find that milk causes all sorts of diseases. The more milk you drink the sicker you will be. Try soy milk, its better for you. Or you could try water. It's relatively free. Hey toadstools and hemlock are vegetarian and they are very toxic. Milk is animal tissue and it is nondigestable. PS cigerettes aren't really very good for you either. Anyhow, You have the freedom to do what you want. I just thought I would give you the truth and then you may decide how to live with the knowledge.

The sugar you are refering to is LACTOSE... Lactase is the enzyme our bodies use to break the lactose down to glucose... Maybe you should check the facts... Fred.

Drink skim milk, it's better. Skim is blue and revolting. 1% is the minimally tolerable product.

Milk is animal tissue and it is nondigestableSo, are you saying that the beef, eggs, chicken, lamb, fish and pork we eat isn't digestable either? How fascinating. That's news to me, and I'm sure it is news to many other people, as well. Oh, well. I'll have my rib steak medium rare, thank you. Washed down with a glass of ice cold milk.
