Schwarznegger Gets 34% of Uberroth Votes..McClintock 21% (New Afternoon CA. Poll Number-Crunching)

In a long and very interesting poll pubished today by the California Chamber of Commerce, (which has endorsed Arnold, and bits have been excerpted to the media) Uberroth backers were asked who they would support if he withdrew.

This is what they said: Schwarzenegger 34%, McClintock 21%, Bustamante 23%.

I'm tired of Western states having to build more schools and infrastructure as people flee en mass from your stupid state.

I'm tired of my tax money in Pennsylvania always being sent to your stupid state to care of all the nutcases that live out there.

If the numbers stay as they are now -- and that would mean that Arnold DOESN'T get hit (successfully) with a late barrage of trash campaigning with new revelations -- that's just what I plan to do. But if Tom catches on better (possibly at the debate Sept. 17) or if Arnold DOES get smashed with negative stuff, I'm sticking with Tom.

Wow, if accurate, this reflects exactly what I've been saying this week about it coming down to a horse race between Arnold and McClintock. I would never dispute that Bustamante would win in a one-on-one with Bustamante, because the Dems would be forced into his corner in order to oppose the conservative candidate, but with Arnold in there to pull a lot of liberal votes, McClintock could leapfrog over the two of them; at worst, Arnold wins due to the crossover votes of liberals.

It does neither candidate any good for either of them to drop out at this stage. Arnold needs McClintock to be the liberals' boogey man that steers their votes his way; and McClintock needs Arnold to split the liberal vote.

Hard to say. Remember, however, that Tom nearly beat Westley for Controller, losing by a tiny fraction of a percent. So he got, what, 46% in that race? (There were some minor candidates.) So I say, Maybe Tom can.

Arnold or Cruz. It's one or the other. Arnold would win. McClintock would not. There are two choices: Arnold or Cruz.

Why did a more conservative person not win?

Why is this state democratically controlled from the governor to the dogcatcher,with nearly two thirds of both houses in liberal democrat control/

Even wilson,with his pro abort stance -THE litmus for many here- was better than the alternative, both times, against DI Fi and K. Brown,as well as better than his successor to the office.

McC may be the cat's meow, but he has to first get in. Currently,his odds don't look so good, and I do not think he will attract many votes from the middle,and no crossovers from the left, hence, in the end, he will not get the plurality needed to win.

I really, really,do not look forward to cruz as the next gov, esp not for the next 8 + years.

He will revitalize the state party. He will cut taxes. He will cut business taxes and get the tech sector back on its feet. He will therefore cut the unemployment rate.

In addition, he will enforce the law in all respects. That to me is sufficient to support someone. Abortion will always be legal in California, and a Governor's position doesn't matter anyways, so it shouldn't be an issue.

but just what does Arnold stand for that would give me a reason to vote FOR him? Taxes? Sorry, but I fully expect a Gov Arnold will find reasons to RAISE taxes. Illegal immigration? Gov Arnold wouldn't do squat!

What could anyone say to persuade you to Schwarzenegger's side? Nothing.

No one else even ran for the nomination. Wilson was fairly conservative as a U.S. senator, turned RINOish in his first term (huge tax hikes), then turned over to the good side of the force in '94 and onwards...
