Much of (Arnolds) strategy is based on cross over appeal to non-Republican voters given his comparitvely moderate views on issues such as gun control, abortion and gay rights.

But less than two weeks into his first run for elected office, Schwarznegger has already become a politically polarizing figure.

Roughly seven in ten Democratic voters have an unfavorable impression of the action-movie star, while the same number of likely Republican voters expressed a favorable view.

The actor won the support of 39% of likely Republican voters, 20% of Independents, and 7% of Democrats polled.

McClintock recieved 21% of the Republican vote, Simon recieved 12% and Uberroth 10%.

Looks like that is what it is going to come down do in Late September and October, if the race is still within margin for error.

Do you think McClintock will bail out and throw his support to Arnold?

Who knows. Republicans have a great history in California of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. So stupid...

There is the theory of voting to keep Davis as a known evil is better than an unknown evil.

The miserable Simon campaign that let Davis get reelected is not encouraging. Heaven help us if Cruz gets elected.I'd be begging for Davis to come back. Yikes!

I think McClintock will get out eventually. The question is how much will his ego trip cost Arnold? Anyone who lives in CA and follows politics knows McClintock will not win. As the old saying goes, half a loaf is better than none, and Arnold is better than Davis.

I'll try to control myself if you can try to control your brain.

Do you even live in California?

Why support I back a guy who surrounds himself with Wilson types, who gave California a $7 billion tax hike, the largest of any state in American history?

Why should I support a RINO who was ashamed of the Clinton impeachment and said he would never forgive the GOP for that action?

When is Arnold going to take a position on the family leave act, which is going to be another nail in the coffin of California businesses? The act was supposed to cost $117 million, hasn't started yet, and is now expected to cost $600 million to $1 billion?

I KNOW CALIFORNIA ISSUES. I LIVE HERE AND I'M A RADIO TALK SHOW HOST. I really don't need your whining for the RINO.

MCCLINTOCK STAYS. The RINO goes.

21% is substantial. I didn't realize he had such a large percentage of GOP support. If the Swartzenager republicans made a gutsy move and switched their support to the real republican, McClintock he might actually have a chance.

There are too many Republicans in this race and the people of our state simply cannot risk a continuation of the Gray Davis legacy. For these reasons, I think it is wise to step aside."-Bill Simon

This is what separates a statesman from a hack.

McClintock would be a good Lt. Governor, but will throw the race to the rats if he continues to run.

McClintock might be a better ideological choice, but it looks like Arnold has more appeal across the political spectrum and it will likely take more than just Conservative votes to beat the Dems in California. If the Dems lose, it's a very big deal with 2004 implications. The ball is now in McClintock's court.

A lot can still happen. The campaign has barely begun, and we know that Dave Grayvis is a dirty campaigner. Does anyone believe that he will not practice a scorched earth policy? He could have some serious dirt on Schwartzenegger ready to go a short time before Oct 7.

Also, I don't underestimate the California voters in terms of what issues sway their votes. Gun control and abortion are two big ones. I know people that will vote for the Dem always on these two issues, and judging by how often these issues come up in campaigns, they do seem to be a major influence on the voters here. Abortion even came up in the controller's race between Westly and McClintock. Now, what does the State Controller have to do with abortion policy? But Westly brought it up and pounded McClintock with it.

I'm not feeling very optimistic about this election.

So far I don't like too much about Arnold, but you are right about the loaf.Maybe Arnold should sweeten McClintocks bank account for an endorsement. That's legal isn't it?
