McClintock Statement on Withdrawal of Candidate Bill Simon

Senator Tom McClintock today released the following statement:

"I am genuinely sorry that Bill Simon is dropping out of the race. He offered a perspective to the debate that will be missed. But his decision to withdraw intensifies my resolve to stay and fight.

"At stake in this campaign, is the future of California - and that decision belongs to the people of California and must not be left to the country club back rooms. If the most qualified candidate must defer every time a celebrity or a millionaire casts a longing eye on public office, we’ve lost something very important in our democracy, and it’s called merit.

"They said that War Admiral couldn’t be beat and shouldn't have to run a race against the likes of Seabiscuit. Let me assure everyone that I am one horse that is in this race to the finish line."

Did you notice that this poll was taken before Simon dropped out? It showed Simon's support at 6%.

I think it'd be a pretty safe bet that a good number of those Simon supporters will now be shifting their support to Tom.

Bob, No I didn't. In fact I haven't even had a chance to read the papers this am. I only heard about the latest poll as I was positng this thread while the Fox crowd was interviewing Mac. For those who didn't get a chance, Tom was very good. In fact one of the hosts, who I don't know as I never watch the program said that he felt Tom was the only candidate that had substantive answers to questions. And that he, the host, would vote for Tom. Please feel free to post any articles as I am off to Mass.

I noticed newsmax.com excerpted Mac's statement on Simon's withdrawal, withOUT including the War Admiral/Seabiscuit statement, only the last part about being in til the finish line.

Dumb excerpters!

Good Mornin' Kelly:

Happy yesterday, happier today...Tom at 12 percent, in the debate before the Simon people jump on board!

What is truly amusing here is the Cruz 35 percent...of course this is the LEFT ANGELES TIMES, and they probably surveyed likely voters that still read that left wing fish wrap...probably in South Central and East L.A.

Somehow either all the previous polls were flawed or some interesting sampling was going on...First question, are you a Democrat, if yes participate in our survey...

Anyway, another glorious day for the McClintock team.

Top of the morning, Don. Mac was just on Tony Snow's program on Fox Cable. Another very good showing by Mac. David Drier up now. The first words out of Drier who is supporting Aunold..."Tom McClintock is a very fine person and has served CA well for the past two decades!" So Congressman Drier, why are you supporting a liberal RINO???
I agree with you, Mac's numbers should continue to rise and with Simon pulling out those numbers should be dramatically better. Interesting that Mac's numbers have doubled while Aunold's numbers have either fallen dramatically or remained the same. I am looking for to the debate now that Mac has the necessary poll numbers to qualify! McCllintock will really shine in the debate. No one knows the numbers and history of CA's problems and how to solve them better than Tom McClintock! click here! http://www.tommcclintock.com

McClintock is not electable. He cannot win. If he want's to be a govenor, he should move to Idaho. I think he will bow out just before the election. He won't want to be remembered for throwing the election to the democrats just because of his egomania.

My husband and I just watched Mac on Tony Snow and
my husband was hoping to hear him say more of the specifics he talks about in radio interviews, but I know that'll be the focus of the debate.

Even Fox gives more time to the Arnold camp.
Can't wait for the debate!

David Drier up now. The first words out of Drier who is supporting Aunold...

If you could stomach it, the interview went on with Tony Snow actually asking a difficult question *gasp* (only one though) about why (R)nold won't take an anti tax pledge, you should have seen Drier fumble for a coherent position. Folks I seriously think this (R)nold thing has peaked at 22%. Independent conservatives who don't trust the CA GOP party (which is larger in CA than probably and other state) are not going to turn out for this dithering. There is a big difference between a Republican politician and a Conservative, and Drier proves that every time he tries to defend this guy.

My favorite part was how Drier kept reinforcing how much HE was a Supply Sider and hasn't raised taxes. Perhaps he had a glimpse that trouble from this RINO might strike the home front. He had pale look about him justifying himself-which was odd considering he was only asked about (R)nold's positions...

"McClintock is not electable" Well the facts don't bear you out. Mac's numbers have doubled while the liberal Aunold's have fallen. The Tokyo Rose propaganda phrase "You can't win!" died in 1945! The last four letters of American bear that out I CAN! Only quitters "can't win!" Aunold is the empty suit liberal who has no platform, no proposals and wants 60 days to learn the job. Well we don't have time to train a governor. McClintock will do more in 60 minutes to fix the problems in Sacramento than the liberal Aunold will do in 60 days! VOTE4MCCLINTOCK or pay$ the con$equence$! I suggest you click here http://www.tommcclintock.com to learn more!

Did you also notice that the poll was taken BEFORE Bustamante's $8 billion tax increase platform was unveiled? I was DUmptster diving on the dark side, and even they were angry that he was "taxing the poor with cigarettes and booze, he should have only taxed yachts or SUVs" (ahh to be naive and not understand my party's platform.)

In any case, this Bustamante guy pulled a Mondale, and will not be able to turn out the base any better than Walter did.

I wrote my congressman Rohrabacher, Chris Cox and blistered them both! When I see them I will read them the riot act! Dornan is another who has evidently been drinking too much of the liberal water in Georgetown since he left CA for DC...

Unfortunately David Dreier (my congressman...) jumped on board the Arnold bandwagon a little too quickly. Dreier is a good guy, but on this he is a little questionable.

Since you mentioned it, I will drop Dreier an e-mail, he is usually good at responding back...

Why did you post a pic of Bust-a-gut? We don't need a picture to know what a race-baiting tax & spend liberal looks like, thank you. I just had my breakfast and I'd like to keep it down! LOL
