Geoghan killed in prison (Boston Herald)
Breaking news/by Eric Convey
Saturday, August 23, 2003

Former priest John Geoghan, a notorious pedophile whose case sparked the clergy molestation scandal of the past 18 months, died this afternoon after being attacked at the state prison in Shirley.

``The perpetrator has been isolated,'' said Kelly Nantell, a spokeswoman for the state Deparment of Corrections.

``Our investigation continues,'' she said.

The matter has been referred to the Middlesex County District Attorney Martha Coakley's office.

Geoghan was serving a nine-to-10 year sentence at MCI Shirley for allegedly groping a boy at a Waltham swimming pool.

More than 140 people have claimed they were abused by Geoghan, claiming they were fondled or raped at locations ranging from church rectories to their own homes.

Geoghan would become one the most notorious pedophiles in the country - not only for the extent of his rampage against children but because relevations about his case led to the unraveling of secrecy within the Archdiocese of Boston.

Bernard Cardinal Law's cordial letters to Geoghan, mixing discipline with praise for his priestly service, that pushed many victims from disbelief to outrage.

If the convict who did the killing is tried by a jury of his peers, he should not have anything to worry about. I would imagine they were waiting in line for the opportunity.

I have been dismayed by the lack of calling homosexual predation what it is.

Yes --- and something the State as well as the Church has been guilty of. I think everyone needs to remember that these pedophiles were allowed by both the hierarchy and the government to continue their perversions against helpless boys. The sex offender lists where pedophiles have been released to live in neighborhoods with children are just as damning of the State as what has occurred within the Church.

Well, at least the usual suspects here are not calling the murderer a "catholic basher."

This thread is so ugly

The fag-bashing, Catholic-hating, stringin-up's-too-good-for-him contingent is out in force on this one.

FR depresses me sometimes. Maybe that's why I spend less and less time here.

Marijuana smokers for the most part are peaceful and funny.

Drunks are ususally wife beaters and are a menace on the roads.

Even better... sedition is a felony during wartime. Democrats have spoken out against Bush. Democrats are felons, and should be executed. Q.E.D.

Funny how none of these folks who are now saying that "he got what he deserved" were willing to kill the bastard themselves.

Because of the perverted sense of justice embraced by this country's bar, anyone who did meet out justice would likely be punished more severly than they would have the true criminal. A felon in prison no longer has that Sword of Damocles hanging over his head. For him, it's already fallen and he no longer has to be concerned with it.

"Who will they determine they have the 'right' to kill next?"

I'd like to ask every single supporter of 'pro-choice' abortion that very same question.

"But be wise as serpants and harmless as doves." Nothing wrong with calling 'em like I see 'em. Lighten up! No more kids are gonna be molested by this guy, and if by some miracle he actually went to heaven, then I'll trust God who knows more than I do that it's the right thing to do. Otherwise, I'm happy he's not on this earth anymore.

There's rough justice in the prison system (ANY prison system), which ought to serve as a further deterrent to crime, but it doesn't seem to.

No, he wasn't armed. Other than being a theif he's actually quite harmless. He would run when, and if confronted.

RC is about as Satanic as the Masonic Lodge.

That's not much of a distinction. The same know-nothing jackasses who slam the Catholic church typically hate the Masons as much if not more.
