You're arguing my first point--that the 9th Amendment is essentially the same as the 10th.

No, they overlap but are not essentially the same. They both place constraints on the federal government while the Tenth Amendment acknolwedges powers that are the states. Big difference unless you're a central government kind of guy.

I find it very difficult to believe the Founders would include a superfluous amendment, so I don't buy that explanation.

I'm not selling anything, just the facts Ma'am just the facts, as Joe Friday was wont to say.

It wasn't superfluous in their minds. The Anti Federalists feared an all powerful Central Government. They were prescient. LOL

God is not a God of hate but of love.

Have you read your Old Testament lately?

But anyway: heh. Islam and Christianity worship the same God.

Islam has a different spin on things, sort of like Christianity has a different spin on Judaism--I'm assuming that you think Jews and Christians worship the same God. It's just a different spin on the same basic concept. Even the Church acknowledges this.

At least you admit they overlap.

So then tell me the differences, then. If you come at it from your perspective, they are the same thing, and that just plain doesn't make sense.

There's a reason why there aren't any true "textualists." This is just one of them. There are too many conflicts and too many unanswered questions.

Jack booted thugs. You must be new to Free Republic if you don't know what jack booted thugs are. LOL

Graven images are descriptive of "golden calves" and stuff like that, not a granite "tablet". Back before Moses, people were worshipping golden objects/deities and they were also partying and sinning up a storm. A replica of Moses' tablet is not a graven image. See ya.

Muslims do not worship the same God - otherwise why the need to disallow all other religions to the point of killing people. Why is America the target of the Muslim extremists if America serves the same God?

No - you can believe that if you wish. To me - it sounds like the latest cover story. Tell Americans that we all serve the same god - that way they will not have any worry about us getting into positions of power.

In fact - it is an insult to God to claim that Muslims worship Him. They worship Allah and they hate our God. That is why the need to strip God from American life so that they can put in place their god.

Jews and Christians do worship the same God. In fact the Jews are God's chosen people. However, they will not accept that Jesus is the Son of God and believe that the Messiah will be coming in the future.

Yet, God will give them another chance. There is much in the Bible about the end times and the status of the Jews. I'm not that well versed in it. Yet the Jews are still God's chosen people and He wants them to accept His Son.
Such an affront to God to deny the gift of His Son especially from His own chosen people.

Of course there are many, many different versions of beliefs as all seek to find the way to God. Yet, it would be wise to seek the way to God - not the false gods.

So if you really think that Jews and Christians worship the same God, why is it so tough to think that Christians and Muslims worship the same God?

Muslims "disallow" other religions for the same reasons that Christians are taught to go out and spread the "good word." Lest you forget, Christians have their own share of a bloody and violent past to convert the non-believers. One can only wonder how many folks died at the hands of the Church for heresy or other such related crimes, and not to even mention the Crusades. So try not to get on your Christian High Horse here--Muslims don't have a monopoly on killing in the name of religion.

Hey, I'm not going to discuss this anymore, but when the Catholic Church even says that Christians and Muslims worship the same God, you ought to re-think that position of yours. Is the Catholic Church in on this Muslim conspiracy, too?

"do you agree with that poster that it's unamerican to try to make sure votes are counted accurately?"

I agree that it is unamerican to single out a race of people (Blacks), use them as political ploys (postpone the recall until March, 2004), all under the guise of "protecting minority rights."

The ACLU knew all along those counties had yet to change their voting machinery - they could have cared less.

Had it not been a major, MAJOR political embarrassment for the Democratic Party for Gov Davis to be recalled in humiliation, the ACLU would have never even approached the subject.

Another ploy to use the minorities as a whipping post.

.........

"this" is the BEST you could come up with?....

"this" proves your ideas of "god" are valid?

"this" indicates that WE ALL should be in agreement with you?

OBVIOUSLY NOT!!!

the original contention still stands.......THAT MOST PEOPLE ARE TOO RELIGIOUSLY IMMATURE concerning the subject "god" to give free vent to what are invented "emotional states"

There's a reason why there aren't any true "textualists." This is just one of them. There are too many conflicts and too many unanswered questions.

If you said there were too many Judges with messianic complexes and too many who support them and their unprecedented expansion of power, I would agree with you there as well.

However, you can repeat the word "textualists" until the cows come home. It translates to me as if you don't favor an omnipotent 14th Amendment and worship at the altar of the robed oligarchy then you are irrational.

Obviously, I would disagree.

"I would add a question: Which group do you think have a keener sense of the real Constitution and the original intent of the Founders and authors of the Constitution and Amendments, The ACLU and Liberal Judges making these rulings *today* or the US Supreme Courts in the first 180 years of our existence?"

Excellent question!

The judicial agenda of our first 180 years was focused on two things: Justice and Unity. They ruled based on the the premises of "right and wrong - good and evil." Things were much simpler then. If you murdered someone, you were hanged. If you committed adultery, it was considered socially unacceptable. The union of mairrage was between a man and a woman - the family was the nucleus of society.

All that has changed now. Our morales are dictated by district and federal judges. Right is not right and wrong is not wrong. In fact, ALL things are now relative - there is no right or wrong.

And above all, the Ten Commandments no longer command the conscience (if there is one) of America.

Yes, but , simply put, why do you OVER-EXAGERATE.....as if ALL CONSERVATIVES MUST agree with you and "accept" YOUR VERSION of "god"?.....

When you say....

"Graven images are descriptive of "golden calves" and stuff like that, not a granite "tablet". Back before Moses, people were worshipping golden....."

...you are showing you are "trying too hard......"

HOW CAN THIS IDEA LEAD THE NATION ANYWHERE EXCEPT INTO DEEPER CONFUSION CONCERNING "GOD" AND "STUFF LIKE THAT?"

You need to relax. Try this.

While sitting at your desk make clockwise circles with your right foot. While doing this, draw the number "6" in the air with your right hand. Your foot will change direction. NOW EXPLAIN THAT ONE!!

I didn't come here tonight to decide matters of biblical proportion and don't intend to. Did I ask everybody to agree with me? Nope. Now do your clockwise circles.

"It cannot be emphasized too strongly or to often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by christians;not on religions, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ. For this very reason peoples of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity, and freedom of worship here."
