Texas democrats. Radio interview with Sen. Rodney Ellis, runaway senator.
KLIF Radio, Dallas ^ | 8/15/03 | hoaxbuster1

Posted on 08/15/2003 11:49:47 AM PDT by hoaxbuster1

On Wed. August 13, 2003, State Senator Rodney Ellis, one of two African-American senators now in New Mexico, was interviewed by KLIF (Dallas) host Greg Knapp. Sen. Ellis, among other things, said that fines levied by GOP senators amounted to a "poll tax". Ellis tells Knapp several times to "shut up", and finally hangs up on Knapp. One post-interview caller to Knapp's show identified herself as an independent, who, after hearing the interview, says she will be voting a straight republican ticket in the future.

When you click on the link below, the mp3 file of the interview will need to download to your computer before you can hear it. Not sure why this is, but I have virus checked the file, and it is A-OK. The file is about 3 meg; may download a bit slow on a dial-up connection -- but rest assured, it is worth the wait!!!

This 13 minute long interview has got to be heard to be believed!!

My friend not everyone that got only an eighth grade is stupid. (me for instance) I served in the Marine Corps from 1942 to 1946, got a purple heart and a metal. Raised 3 wonderful children, six grand children, and now have two greatgrand children. Never in my life have I taken a cent of welfare or other government handouts. I am not saying that this man is not dumb, but just don't lump all uneducated with the same brush.

The very best to you and yours.

When did he last run, 2000 or 2002? I can't find him listed in the election results from the SOS Election archives. He's in Dist 13...... Those districts are sure gerrymandered in the Houston area it seems. He runs for the Pearland/Missouri City area north through the downtown area then the NE section up above 610 loop....

I know --- my grandfather only went through 3rd grade ---- but was far more educated and intelligent --- sorry if I seemed to imply something different.

Many high school graduates have no better than an 8th grade or less education ---- my grandfather was basically self-educated after he left formal schooling --- he was far beyond the eighth grade level --- he could explain vector forces using pool balls better than most college professors. But that's not how this Ellis guy seems.

I'm not sure, although I thought all state senators had to run in 2002 after the new legislative map took effect.

The map you linked showed something else interesting, too. Ken Armbrister, the only Rat state senator not to flee, is in a pretty vulnerable district. It includes the fast-growing western suburbs of Houston. That's Tom DeLay country, and the voters there will be pulling the lever for any GOP challenger.

You are correct.... They must run after the Census reapportionment and then draw lots for 2 and 4 yr terms..... Looking back at the results it seems there were several not shown in the results so maybe those were where only one candidate was in the race.....

Yes Ambrister is vunerable I'd guess... He won in 02 with some 53.35%. So a strong GOP Candidate with name recognition would have a chance. That is why he didn't run...

Also Barrentios (sp) in Travis county had a close race and won with some 53%. I'm not sure but he maybe on the block also with a strong candidate in opposition...

This guy Ellis is so popular in his district that he could commit a major crime and still be reelected unless a conviction would keep his name off the ballot. These eleven senators are immensely popular in their districts.

Haven't the TX senators already drawn lots for the 2004 and 2006 elections?

:ucky for the pubbies that the public schools have failed so much that few folks in these guys Texas constituencies have any idea what a poll tax is.

Ellis gets reelected because he "talks back to power." People in the poorer parts of Houston like a "leader" who uses his "big mouth" to mouth off at "white folks."

http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/sjrnl/78r/html/sj01-14-f.htm

On 1/14/03, a drawing was held in the Texas Senate to determine who would serve two or four year terms, as dictated after redistricting. Listing only those 11 who fled to New Mexico:

Drawing four year terms: Senators Ellis, Barrientos, Madla, Shapleigh, and Whitmire.

Drawing two year terms: Senators Gallegos, Hinojosa, Lucio, Van de Putte, West, and Zaffirini.

Unfortunately, most of these people are in "safe" districts. Most of their constituents think their senators' actions are justified. Boy, it may be a pipe dream, but are there any democrats with integrity who would challenge any of these clowns in the primaries?

I seem to recall reading that liberal Sen. Jeff Wentworth, R-San Antonio, drew a four-year term.

Actually, Sen. Ellis has a curious tie to a "major crime", one that benefitted his political agenda. Not saying that he was involved, but as Martin Luther King once said, "He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetuate it."

I hate to admit it, but you're so right! Ain't nobody more racist than most of the voters in his and other Rat districts. They check skin color before anything else and their representatives demonstrate it by their rudness and ignorance.

The fact that Rodney kept yelling for this guy to SHUT UP and the fact that Rodney inferred this guy is just STUUPID because he didn't attend law school is unforgivable!

He's just an arrogant putz, IMHO. They all are and they should be impeached for turning the electoral process into a 4th grade brawl. I am ashamed for my state. And every radio station here should play that interview. Disgusting!
