Why the heck are there not a constant stream of buses running out of the PATH terminal?

Emergency bus operations in a situation like this are severely constrained not only by the number of buses in their fleet, but by the number of bus drivers that can make it to the bus garage in a given time. If New Jersey Transit operates 1,200 buses system-wide during the evening peak hour, they aren't likely to have another 800 lying around to use in a case like this. And even if they did, they don't have 800 bus drivers on the payroll waiting for incidents like this to occur.

Did you have another outage up north? I'm in central and we lost power again around 11:00pm

Right, but you really think they are even trying to continue their normal routes right now? I would guess that they would revert to a skeleton emergency plan that focused on a limited number of evacuation shuttle routes. The trains should still be able to run, because most systems have backup batteries in the crossing and signal systems, and in an emergency the railroads can waive the Federal rules that limit how long a railroader can work. I would suspect there are similar emergency waivers for bus drivers, so those on duty can continue until the backlog is relieved.

I would not be surprised if there were some major changes in the bus/rail emergency service plans as a result of today.
