Joe ......CNBC is reporting several PA counties are having electrical problems......they didnt say which.

Brian Wilson was on FNC earlier mentioning something about a power circut/grind/whatever that is around the great lakes and serves many states .. could have been a lot worse

Yeah? What caused the "dropout"?!

Lots of things could cause a dropout. Any number of problems at a generation plant -- such as a garden variety transformer failure -- would cause the thing to automatically shut down. If it's a big plant (it is), and there's already a heavy system load (there was), then the rest follows naturally.

Hi ya'll, just woke up from a nap with my newborn via TV on mute with FoxNews. First thought was terrorism. Called my husband at work who at first didn't believe me then called me back saying that this explains their problems at work.

So this blackout affects even business here in SC and probably all over US with internet problems etc.
Gonna call my parents in PA to see if it affects them.

Jennings will criticize President Bush for being on the West Coast. But who's watching him anyway?

Jennings was just reporting from a FARM somewhere in the middle of nowhere in Ontario. He's got no room to talk.

The way I see it, in a hugh instance where the world was really coming to an end, we'd all be here typing away instead of panicking or clinging to our loved ones. Am I right?

Well DUH!

Ha! And everyone was laughing at California! How long has it been, maybe two years now, since we've had rolling blackouts? Gray Davis kept the friggin' lights on! Maybe he can go to NY and give them a hand to keep THEIR friggin' lights on. But then, of course, we won't let him back into the state...

Called my parents in Schenectady, NY (outside of Albany) and their power went off for 5 minutes, back on now.

Glad to hear it. Isn't it funny how much we worry about our folks? Payback time, I guess.

My sister lives in Westchester (15 miles north of Manhattan) and they're still without power.

Amtrak reporting trains not running....this was one of their standard weekly news releases.

Yeah, it wasn't like they had to dust that press release off!

I remember reading about the 1965 blackout of the Northeast. Even back then, people were so dependent on electricity that nobody knew what to do. Power was restored to most of the area by 7AM the next morning.

That power blackout also originated in the Niagara Falls area.

They just showed the Lake Shore Power Plant in Cleveland - I've been there a few times! Looks kind of calm there. I bet they wish that they had kept the old oil-burners available now - we had 2 diesels there that could be used to start the old units, but they are decomissioned. I remember when they brought in contractors to cut out the old copper cables.

Oh, man! I hope so. Keep in touch with FR. I have to leave myself, for a couple of hours. I'll be watching closely later.

Power goes out, crowds in the street. Hmmm, how long until an RPG hits NYC's City Hall?
