Hannity station went dead for about 20 seconds. Said he had never seen anything like it.

Gray Davis just said that the blackout on the East Coast will not affect California.
I am not making it up. I think ABC reported it.

It's getting dark, and a LOT of people still stuck in the city - according to FOX news, hotels are full or filling quickly.
So far, they're only covering Manhattan. Not to state the obvious, but there's the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, etc.

It's hilarious, the Canadian station up here is reporting that the cause is a fire in NYC.
They're not reporting their own prime minister's statement.

You asked: "How long to restart a Nuke?" if it just "tripped off" as a safety measure, we are definitely talking hours, not days, to restart -- maybe even just a few minutes.
another thread had a report from the "North American Electric Reliability COuncil" saying that roughly 28 Gigawatts of supply went off at some point, but only 5-10 GW are off now. For comparison, a big nuke is about 1 GW -- total national supply is about 800 GW

I'm in Texas but I think I better go to Walmarts to pick up a few things. My flashlights and candles ready and the generator is full.

Clinton on ABC now (Hitlary): Meeting with her summer interns getting their views about their experiences. (LOL). Everyone was calm and deliberate.
Koppel asking her how a nuke plant gets back on line. She's assuming there are generators to help it get back up but says she doesn't know. She thinks the real question is how did this happen? She understand we've had two days of hot weather in the northeast and it strikes her that we weren't prepared.

VICE PRESIDENT CHENEY June 13, 2001:"One of the concerns, obviously, is the aging power grid and the growing problem that we have in getting electricity from the power plant to the light switch. It's clear that we must upgrade and expand the power grid. If we put more connections in place, we'll go a long way towards avoiding future blackouts."

They're not reporting their own prime minister's statement. I'm not really surprised

Yeah, I know, I guess all those Clinton years of carefully parsed statements got me a little cynical.
Personally I don't think it's terrorism either. It's been awfully hot here in the NE for quite some time, and equipment can't run at full throttle forever.

Thanks for the reply and information!
Well, that stuff's changed a bit since I had one in my tree house. It figures that that ham's would be the ones to provide real emergency services though - they almost always have all around the world.
The more things change the more they remain the same.
