(AgapePress) - Researchers are warning of an HIV outbreak on college campuses in North Carolina.
A study conducted by the University of North Carolina and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services indicates that up to 60 college students in the state may have become infected with the virus that causes AIDS. The study found that 25 male college students in a three-county region of North Carolina have been diagnosed with HIV since 2001, and nearly 90% of those students were black men whose infections resulted from homosexual sex.
Lead researcher Dr. Lisa Hightow, a fellow in infectious diseases at the UNC School of Medicine, says half of all new HIV infections occur in young people.
"We feel that this is a wakeup call to the fact that HIV is still being actively transmitted and that it's involving our young people in our state. We feel that this is certainly statewide, but not necessarily limited to the state," she says.
According to Hightow, up until this year, no reports on HIV infection rates at colleges had been published. The researcher says she and her colleagues are consulting with experts from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and have been working to improve prevention efforts.
"We alerted all the key health department personnel as well as all the campuses, and have started to expand our counseling and testing activities on the campuses," Hightow says. "Many of the colleges and universities that we have been working with have begun to increase student awareness of HIV."
Hightow notes that many of the students in North Carolina who were recently infected with HIV had used the drug Ecstasy and met their homosexual partners over the Internet.
At the beginning of last year, the CDC reported approximately 362,827 persons in the United States living with AIDS. Of these, 42% were whites, 37% were blacks, 20% were Hispanics, less than 1% were Asians and Pacific Islanders, and less than 1% were American Indians and Alaskan Natives. Of the 282,250 men (13 years or older) living with AIDS, 57% were men who had homosexual sex, 24% were intravenous drug users, and 9% were exposed through heterosexual contact. Of the 76,696 adult and adolescent women with AIDS, 59% were exposed through heterosexual contact and 38% were exposed through intravenous drug use. And according to the CDC, at the end of 2001 there were 3,817 children living with AIDS in America.*
While I haven't read her book it sounds like a great read. Here are some of Tammy's words from July 31:
Protect New York's Children from the Gay Elite
Figures
All the sexually transmitted diseases are treated - why an exception to Aids?
Please provide the post where one of the above folks you pinged said we should not find a cure or treat AIDS.
Just wishing that people will change their behavior has never solved any problems because we live in a morally freer climate.
Nobody is just wishing. Thousands have left the gay lifestyle or deathstyle depending on your perspective. Here's some links on where homosexuals can get help:
Perhaps if the results from the above organizations weren't squelched or were discussed by major media we wouldn't have the problem we have today.
Apparently I know a good deal more than many on here as they think this is only a problem among gays
Yet not a single post in this thread, or any thread I've read here has stated AIDS is only a problem among gays. You've repeated this false statement more than once and I've corrrected it more than once. The facts do state AIDS is predominate among gay males. Here's something you may find interesting: The Myth of Heterosexual AIDS
Seems a little risky to me. Maybe we ought to spend our efforts in finding cures.
Do you think we should spend a disproportionate about of money on AIDS research especially when the main cause of AIDS is preventable?
MKM
The bottom line is that homosexual anal sex and WILD promiscuity has spread AIDS, and those getting it from needle sticks and so would NEVER get it if it hadn't been for the homosexuals spreading it among themselves and then out into the rest of the population.
. Just wishing that people will change their behavior has never solved any problems because we live in a morally freer climate.
There's the solution. There needs to be a moral change of climate in this country. The "freer" morals you speak of are the source of most of the terrible problems we are facing, AIDS is not the worst of them. Wishing doesn't help, but accepting the serious moral decline as inevitable will make it worse. Action can and should be taken, and one of those actions is to NOT ACCEPT the homosexual movement's lies, but to tell the truth. Homosexuals are unhappy people who are killing themselves and now others, for instance those you mentioned in medical professions. Homosexuals can change, and until this truth is allowed to be broadcast, people are going to continue to get and give AIDS.
My aren't we pompous and unconcerned since it is only gays that get exposed and transmit the disease?
If I had three children in college - I would be worried. Are they having sex with any person that was ever exposed sexually or through exposure to bodily fluids with an HIV+ person? If not, how do they know? Have their partners been tested? If not, they are taking a chance.
I am through with this discussion. I have tried to advise that our young people are in danger - gay or not. I have tried to advise that the desire to cast blame instead of finding solutions to protect all members of society is denying the danger of infection, and turning the problem into only a "gay" problem - all others are safe and should not be concerned.
The whole tone of this thread has been who causes it and if we can make them stop their activities there would be no problem. Ok, make them stop sexual activities. We'll give you - oh maybe two years to get it stopped before we worry about anyone we know coming into danger. Until then, don't bother teaching your young that they can get exposed to HIV through sex with their partner who just might be HIV+.
Now make all sexual activity stop between gays - we are waiting......waiting.....waiting... Now make all sexual activity stop among our young people - we are waiting....waiting....waiting.
Good, now all are safe. Go on with your lives.

The life of an AIDS patient is no less precious than that of someone with any other disease. But it isnt more precious, either. Besides, AIDS is simple to avoid. Unlike most cancers, unlike muscular dystrophy, unlike Lou Gehrigs Disease, unlike diabetes, unlike Alzheimers, the statistics above prove that the vast majority of AIDS cases are caused by willful behavior that most people know is not good for them. Homosexuals are 5000 times more likely to die of AIDS than heterosexuals. Anyone that abstains from sex or has sex only with a faithful spouse, and does not use intravenous drugs, has much less chance of getting AIDS then being killed in an airplane crash. Since only the act of sodomy differentiates an active homosexual from a heterosexual, it is hard to justify preferential handling for a disease almost anyone can prevent!
FACT In Wisconsin during 1997, your Federal and State taxes funded 8.3 million dollars directly for AIDSthe equivalent of more than $104,000 for each AIDS death, but only $35 for each death from heart disease and stroke (Federal only) and $568 per death for (certain) cancers. Yet heart disease and stroke in Wisconsin during 1997 accounted for 17,300 deaths, and cancer for 10,500, while AIDS accounted for only 80 as the underlying cause of death. Compared to heart disease and stroke AIDS funding per death should amount to .06 cents. Funding per AIDS death is almost 3,000 times more than that for heart disease and stroke, and 200 times more than for cancer. This figure does not include Medicaid expenses for AIDS totaling almost an additional $13,000,000. Wisconsin provides no funding for heart disease, prostate and colon cancer, as well as most other afflictions.
(Wisconsin Dept of Health and Family Services/National Center for Health Statistics)FACT During 1997, AIDS funding by the City of Madison and Dane County, from your tax dollars, to the Madison AIDS Network totaled $514,904. There is no city or county funding for any other disease. In Dane County during this same year, 566 people died as a result of cancer, 934 from circulatory disease, and only 6 from AIDS. Interestingly, over 55 percent of the 1.5 million dollars funded through various sources (1.2 million from your tax dollars) to the Madison AIDS Network each year goes to pay salaries and benefits! Of the total income in 1998 of $7,948,493 for the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin, $4,421,230 was used for salaries and benefits.(Wisconsin AIDS/HIV program / Madison AIDS Network budget sheet / Wisconsin Women Magazine article January 1999 / Madison Magazine February 1994 / AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin revenue for 1998)
FACT - Surprisingly, as many people die from reaction to aspirin each year as from AIDS. Last year, more people in the U.S. died of pneumonia and flu, from Alzheimers, cirrhosis of the liver, Lyme disease or even from falls than from AIDS. In fact, more people die of heart disease every six months than have died from AIDS in the last 16 years. (Wisconsin Dept. of Health and Family Services / National Center for Health Statistics / Jeff Jacoby, the Boston Globe)
FACT The first recorded AIDS cases in the U.S. were in the mid to late 1970s, and occurred in New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. At first it was called GRID, which stands for Gay Related Immune Deficiency. This name was given because homosexual men were the only patients. In 1981 the first reported AIDS case (by that name) was recorded by the Center for Disease Control. AIDS stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency (Acquired because you get it from someone else). The case was known as patient "Zero", a possible Air Canada steward from Montreal, who died in 1984. He contracted the disease as a result of sex with other men. (Wisconsin Dept of Health and Family Services, Division of Public Health Center for Disease Control The 20th Century, with Mike Wallace, A&E Television Network, The History Channel AIDS, What the Government Isnt Telling You, Dr. Lorraine Day, Rockford Press, Palm Desert, CA. WI State Journal, 6/23/99.)
FACT The first recorded AIDS case in Wisconsin was in 1982. Records indicate that the recipient was a male who contacted the disease as a result of sex with other men, and came to Milwaukee from another state. Statistics show that the number of heterosexual women diagnosed with AIDS is increasing, and sex with infected bisexual men is the leading cause. The disease is then passed on to their newborn children. (WI. Dept. of Health and Family Services) See statistics above concerning heterosexual contact.
FACT It is impossible to correctly state that homosexuals cannot change. Today, thousands of former homosexuals are PROOF that change is possible. Michael Johnston, founder of Kerusso Ministries, who was in the homosexual lifestyle for 16 years and who now has AIDS, stated at a conference conducted by Alliance For Life Ministries in Madison last year, "Dont believe it when you hear that homosexuals cannot change. Its a lie. I and many others are proof." Johnston can be contacted at 757-872-8878, P.O. Box 2399, Newport News, VA 23609.
WHY THIS SPECIAL TREATMENT? We want reason in this debate, not rhetoric. Were asking you to re-examine the truth of homosexuality and AIDS with ALL the facts in hand, apart from half-truths and hostile name-calling. If you really love someone, youll tell them the truth. Love without truth is simply empty affection, but truth in love can give hope.
If our community is interested in reducing AIDS, a change in behavior will do more than all the billions your Federal, State, and County governments can spend from YOUR TAX DOLLARS. AIDS is a recreational and preventable disease, primarily spread by a destructive lifestyle!
THINK ABOUT IT!
I agree. Anyone who has promiscuous sex is endangering their life. So people should curtail their sex lives and wait for marriage.
I have tried to advise that the desire to cast blame instead of finding solutions to protect all members of society is denying the danger of infection,
The solution is very, very simple. See first comment.
turning the problem into only a "gay" problem - all others are safe and should not be concerned.
I am wondering why you keep denying - with all the links and information posted right on this very thread - that homosexual behavior is intrinsic to the spread of AIDS? Homosexual activists tried to tell us 15 years ago that soon "everyone" would have AIDS. But even today the majority of those catching AIDS are either homosexuals, IV drug users (who are often prostitutes), bisexuals, or women who have sex with some of the above. Be honest!
We warn those we love.
We don't warn those we are apathetic about.
In post 32 I said "a friend won't always tell you what you want to hear." A true friend is someone who cares for you enough to say things nobody else will say, even though it may hurt.
Perhaps ClancyJ could read some of the links here:

Oh!!!!! This one is especially special in that it gets two, yes, TWO, diversity points!!!! A BIG celebration of diversity must take place over this.
Homosexuality kills. What are we doing celebrating/promoting killing?!? Homosexual activits are mean, brutal, killers...
