Bill Press, you say. Now where did I put my truckload of salt :-)
Seriesly, I'm just having a bit of a vent-fest. If anything happens, please ping me to it. I REALLY have to go support a near-local effort to get a property tax freeze (starts in 45 minutes at a place it takes me 20 to drive to and 20 to find a place to park at).

Can you tell we're just filling in time? Um.......uh...........yeh.
To: Dog
I'm expecting a delay, though not til March. Its not the end of the world if there is one announced. Maybe they'll move the election to November 4 so that the African-American voters will know where to go to vote.

There have been several suits in both State and Federal courts filed here all involving various tangents of the recall process in California.

Screw it, I'm goin' shootin'.

I hope they have lots of security if they rule in Davis favor. They would need lots of protection to stay safe. Of course most judges are allowed to carry while law abiding citizens are left twisting in the wind.

That sounds reasonable. People usually vote in November anyway.

It may not be the end of the world, but if I was in California I would have to seriously ask, "is it, in fact, time to shoot the bastards*".
*From the phrase, "What to do when it's too late to work within the system and too early to shoot the bastards.

The law's pretty clear though. One day's delay is too much.

I have to agree. I like McClintock, but he's all wet on being able to void the contracts. Davis tried, and he knew it was pretty much political life and death for him to do so. Davis is a lousy governor, but he has good lawyers and I'm sure they would have found out a way to welsh if it was at all possible.

They're not going to cancel the recall. Even the CSC is smart enough not to do that. It would be like lighting a match to barrels full of kerosene.

Has the supposed infraction been worth all the emotion? Sheesh. Sigh. If you were looking at it as emotional, you were wrongly looking at me. I simply asked for a link, like all responsible posters provide, and all I got was attacked.
...and now whined to.

Here's what I heard Tom McClintock say about rescinding the contracts: Gray Davis' chief negotiator for the contracts was a paid consultant by one or more of the energy companies (at least one of them anyway. I didn't write down the details and can't remember the particulars). As such, there was a conflict of interest to have this person negotiating contracts with these companies. Mr. McClintock said the law allows the contracts to be voided on this basis. I don't know - I don't know the law, just reporting out what I've heard him say. He further said that the reason Davis hasn't voided the contracts on this basis is that it would be, to say the least, embarassing to him to have to admit that the person he was using for the contract negotiations had ties to the energy companies.
If anyone has any more information on this, or can flesh out any of the details, or can correct me if i'm wrong, please feel free to do so.

If it involves giving everyone an equal chance to vote, a reasonable delay will make for a fairer election. I can live with that notion.

That sounds reasonable. People usually vote in November anyway. That way, Davis buys time to save his sorry butt, and knows he can find more people at the polls then. Get it?
