Vote On Gay Bishop Delayed; Allegations Surface

The vote on confirming a gay Episcopal bishop was postponed Monday in light of allegations of pornography and inappropriate conduct, a church spokesman said.

A vote was expected Monday in Minneapolis that could make a New Hampshire clergyman, the Rev. Gene Robinson, the church's first openly gay elected bishop.

The spokesman said the postponement came after allegations emerged involving "touching" and "pornography." He declined to elaborate.

The church's House of Deputies has voted overwhelmingly to approve Robinson, who faces a final vote in the House of Bishops.

Robinson says Sunday's results make him feel "very peaceful on the inside" and "very humbled."

But the American Anglican Council, which represents conservative bishops and parishes, said it is "deeply grieved" by the results.

Robinson, a 56-year-old divorced father of two, has lived with his partner, Mark Andrew, for 13 years.

Bishops who believe gay sex is a sin say the approval of Robinson will weaken and divide the denomination and spark a bitter fight over parish property and funds.

But liberals say the threat has been exaggerated and note that many conservatives had pledged to break ties before over issues such as ordaining women but did not follow through.

It's amazing to me that a judge could take away the camp of the Scouts illegally UNLESS they deny God and bend over for the gay agenda. Meanwhile, the Moooslim camp is embraced. I like the Times articles from Iraq that extoll this holy city, that holy mosque, that holy ayatollah with a reverence. At the same time, they attack and destroy everything Christian, implying that Christianity must be somehow defeated. I am not even religious, but I know fascism when I see it.

I am not concerned about Al Qaeda- we can trash them at anytime militarily. I am concerned with fascist leftists trying to undermine every institution in this country. It borders on conspiracy and it is no longer subtle. Leftists like hillary are in our face with their aggression. Either I am paranoid or this is the most serious issue domestically since the Civil War. More depressingly, the repubs are pretending that nothing is happening. Hillary's speech the other day called for the elimination of states rights. Federal law would be generated basically to replace the states rights, including loose interpretations of the Constitution. It scared the sh** out of me.

I am personally at the point where if faced with a confrontation whereby my freedom is usurped by govt, I will not back down if attacked.

All roads are leading to the end of the Constitution as we know it and the usurpation (word?) of "I".

Does that make the parents egotistical? No, it makes them understand the bond of love between parents and children. Children instinctively love their parents.

The reason why I ask, is someone mentioned that their numbers were not very large, and thus the church should actually be called a sect.

Referring to my very trusty (and long pre-PC) Webster's New Collegiate, the relevant definitions of "sect" are:
4. In religion: a A party dissenting from an establishment or parent church; a body of sectaries. b. One of the organized bodies of Christians; a denomination.

(a) doesn't quite apply, even historically, though (b) does. I think what your "someone" was reaching for was the word "cult" -- a very similar (and in some aspects overlapping) word, but one with rather more negative connotations.

The Episcopal church in America has (to my historically inadequate knowledge) not been a really big church percentage-wise, but it has until recently, certainly within my lifetime, been still large enough and influential enough to be accurately enough called "The Republican Party at prayer."

Those days are obviously long gone; twenty years and more ago, when I was still an Episcopalian, it was obvious even to me that they were history. But is the Episcopal Church of the United States of America (ECUSA) merely a cult? I don't think so. Not yet.

The Episcopal is world's second largest church after the Catholics (79 million?) but only comprises something like 3% of all US protestants, mostly on the east coast.

OK, then that's what you should do. My life is dedicated to other things. But you're free to do what you wish. I hope you'll allow me the same freedom.

I would never do that. My parents are very important to me, and since they're both 79 years old, I take them even more seriously. How could I reject them. They created me.

You can't have it both ways. My parents created me sometime around Halloween, 1944, when they had sexual intercourse. After a normal gestation of 9 months, I was born in July of 1945 at 2 A.M. on the 29th.

Your deity had nothing to do with it. My parents tell me that they were alone in their bed that night. Right after that, my Dad shipped out to Europe, where he flew B-17s in WWII.
