Southerners Know How to React
Watch out who you call a nasty name - he might be a Southerner, and y'all will be in a heap o' trouble.
Southerners, it seems, are brimming over with cortisone and testosterone, and they tend to be quick on the trigger. That's according to eggheads at the University of Michigan, where shrinks wandered down corridors bumping into students and calling them names.
Students from the South reacted far more violently and aggressively than those from the North, and "in tests regularly suggested more belligerent solutions to problems," writes Britain's Spectator magazine.
At the root of it all is the nearly vanished concept of honor, which appears to be thriving south of the Mason-Dixon line.
The Michigan experiments demonstrated that Southerners "retain two vital aspects of the old honour system: a high degree of sensitivity to insults and a tendency to respond with violence and aggression," according to Spectator.
That sounds reasonable - except how does it explain Bill Clinton, Al Gore, John Edwards and Jimmy Carter?

True, all their balls (cannon, that is ) were used in the great war of the northern agression. PS They won, by the way.
They didn't win....we just got tired of killing yankees and went home.

And UofM is a representative sample of the south??? It's not even a representative sample of my own state.

Well, that's just it, we wouldn't do that. It would be rude. But it happens to be the main reason we don't like Yankees. They have NO qualms about coming down here saying how things suck or how much better they are up north. After we kick their ass we tell them they can go home any time they want - as long as it's now.

And southerners must apply to folks outside of Florida. There's many I've met that wouldn't have passed this study I know. Michigan is invading Tampa and Orlando. LOL. (and NYC invades the Gold Coast)

That's because the south still lacks first class cities. If a person became aggressive every time they were bumped and/or dissed while walking the streets in Manhattan, he or she wouldn't last a city minute.

IMHO, Ohioans are generally good people, especially once you get out of the city centers.
However, there's a noticable difference in temperment once you leave the state (going south). I have to admit though, it takes me a couple of days to "slow down" to the pace. We're so frantic up North. Fast food is a perfect example - its just never fast down south in comparison.
However, once you realize that Southernors aren't inefficient, they just have a better sense of priority, its easy to just relax into the lifestyle and enjoy it. That's what life's all about, after all. Southernors seem to "get it" in that respect. The manners and mannerisms are just another aspect of enjoying life, from my experience.

"If you say "Civil War", you are a yankee. A civil war is a war over the control of a country. The South never sought to control the North, only it's own fate. "
Up until the 1890s, the official US Government name for the "late unpleasantness" was the The War of the Rebellion while southerners called it "The War Between the States". Unlike modern neo-confederate revisionists, many in the south who had fought through the war took offence at the implication they were Rebels and Southern congress critters put a bill through Congress to have the war officially called "The Civil War."
The "Northern Aggression crap is all Lost Cause BS cooked up later as part of their revisionist mythology. If you dont like the name Civil War, blame the southern congressmen who invented it. They had lived through the war, and that name was what they wanted.

It could have to do with genetic heritage. Whatever the reason everyone knows we have been two seperate nations since before the civil war, forced to co-exist.
I had to smile at my Doctor on my last vist, there was all this paperwork I had to read and sign regarding our Dr/patient priviledge. I asked him if what I was signing meant that Dr/patient confidentiality was dead. He's said "Naw this is just more silliness from those people up north".
Southern men still open doors for a lady, wait for her to get on an elevator, and touch their hats as a sign of respect, even if it is a baseball cap. They are still men, and southern women are glad of it.
