Gov. Gray Davis became the nation's first governor in 82 years to face a recall election, as California's secretary of state announced Wednesday that a Republican-led campaign once discounted as improbable had qualified for the ballot.

Davis, a career Democratic politician who was elected in a landslide in 1998 before his popularity plunged amid California's energy crisis and budget deficit, must face the electorate in 60 to 80 days, according to state law.

I'm glad you know everything, but run Simon and we lose again. Bottom line.

Riordan would be a disaster, not just for the state GOP, but for the state itself. He doesn't have the will necessary to get the budget under control. He'd try to spend his way out.

Simon is not the right choice, either. He had his chance already.

Tom McClintock is the right choice. I hope he is elected.

Hugh Hewitt says Ahhnold has told his 'people' he won't run. Rumor is he might take on Boxer for Senate. I think this is a much better scenario. Boxer needs to be flushed this time around.

Why take the helm of the Titantic when there are still raft seats available? He may well be right.

The courts will not tolerate any election where some precincts offer up polling places, and others do not, leaving you only with the absentee ballot option in the latter case. That is assuming there is not some statute mandating on the ground polling places for elections.

Nope, the statutes, as interpreted by the courts, plus the state and federal constitutional overlay. Shelly is merely a puppet on a string. Surely you know that by now.

Re: Tom, Most brain dead California voters won't vote so name recognition is not a major issue. Anyone with a clue will know who he is and what he would bring to the Gub's office. It won;t require massive amounts of money to advertise in the old conventional ways, the networks and newshounds will be all over this 2 month mini-campaign, plenty of free lens time for everyone including FReepers (hint hint!)... and the internet will be better and more readily able to inform and arouse the voters that will care enough to vote for the man for the job.

Re: Bush and Pubbie support, while it would be nice to see the CA GOP canoe with Parsky at the helm paddle the same direction as the mainstream grass-roots conservatives that begin to assert their rights to live in a Republic again, Im not gonna lose sleep over it. Turning California back from what it has quietly become; overrun with those who don;t have the best interests of their state and fellow man at heart, won't be easy, but think of the alternative if we don't try now to reverse our common fate.

This recall is but the first step in a new age of political revolution in the 21st century.

We need the brightest and most dedicated men and women directing this ship back towards a new day in the Godlen State's history.

California can act and choose to reject all the tenets of socialism and help lead the way again, away from liberalism and worse.

We must not fail to do our duty to select the best of the best to lead us.

Tom is my man, no matter what anyone else may say.

Re; smashing the demRats, they're doing a pretty good job of that already. We just need to make sure the word gets out what they really are all about...and it ain't pretty. ;-)

Open Mic Catches California Democrats
(AP) - Unaware that a live microphone was broadcasting their words around the Capitol, Assembly Democrats meeting behind closed doors debated prolonging California's budget crisis for political gain. Members of the coalition of liberal Democrats talked about slowing progress on the budget as a means of increasing pressure on Republicans. A microphone had been left on during the closed meeting Monday, and the conversation was transmitted to about 500 "squawk boxes" that enable staff members, lobbyists and reporters to listen in on legislative meetings. More...

"Let's hope that Riordan's age and his ailing wife who does not want him to run win out. He's aRINO extraordinaire and was brutally smeared publicly by Grayout when he ran last time, and he eventually dropped out, leaving Simon."

He was defeated by Simon in the primary--he didn't 'drop out.'

What California needs right now is a united Republican party, putting forth a single candidate, who will employ fiscal conservatism to get out of the budget mess.

Issa is the ONLY declared candidate as of today. As such, he's the ONLY one making campaign statements about getting out of the mess.

This Republican would like to hear what announced candidates say they would do, if elected.

I looked for familiar Freepers today on the news! I met a lot of you when I lived in Los Angeles last year, and at the Freeper Rally in DC, Oct. 1998. I thought I saw some familiar faces on TV today. Keep up the good work. Hope the throat gets better. GREAT JOB!

You're right! Now the really hard part. :-)

It's nice to know the Spirit of Hiram Johnson is touching this state and making the demRats mighty edgy these days. ;-)

On to the Recall vote.. and Then , onto 2004 and throw out the rest of the demRats. We must keep the momentum going..

I read a lot of articles about Graham Davis HIS REAL NAME while I lived in LA last year during the campaign. Even his friends don't like him, and he is forever asking for more donations/bribes.

Thanks, BG :-)

This is a battle for a state that deserves so much more from its leaders than to be allowed to decay and fester. The Republic must be restored. The infidels must be removed from their offices and the institutions where they preach and teach their liberal socialistic agendas.

CA better be careful, or Davis might get the best of the state yet.

Yup. Like all RATS, he's petty, vindictive and vengeful. California should be real careful right now. Remember, Davis still has his "emergency powers" which he never relinquished from the energy crisis.

I just went to his website, and I think if he (Mclintock) gets elected and cleans up the mess known as California, he may be looking at a national candidacy soon after. I would vote for him.
