[history]
Gov. Gray Davis became the nation's first governor in 82 years to face a recall election, as California's secretary of state announced Wednesday that a Republican-led campaign once discounted as improbable had qualified for the ballot.
Davis, a career Democratic politician who was elected in a landslide in 1998 before his popularity plunged amid California's energy crisis and budget deficit, must face the electorate in 60 to 80 days, according to state law.

YES!!!!! Grayout didn't think we could do it! Quote of the day, maybe the YEAR, from his lips to ours:
"I think there are more people who are against the recall than think I am doing a good job."
HUH? Anyway, YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!

SF Gate Update: 18:29 PDT -- Secretary of State Kevin Shelley has certified the first recall election of a sitting governor in California history.
Shelley said his office has received more than 1.6 million signatures asking for the recall of Governor Gray Davis, more than 1.3 million of which have been found to be valid, far above the approximately 900,000 that were needed.
The spotlight now moves to Lieutenant Governor Cruz Bustamante, who must choose a date for the recall election this fall.

It's great to watch. Sec of State Shelley is a nervous wreck. I think he said Bustamante might speak soon?
To: Brian S
Now hopefully the GOP can find a candidate cleaner than Caesar's wife, someone who won't get nailed by the Graystopo.

I like McClintock a lot. I just heard Simon on the radio saying he's considering another run.

Credit must be given where credit is due:
Darrel Issa
This historitc event would not have happened without him.
Thanks to him and all who worked on it.
It is real. It has happened.
It is not some vague future possibility -- it has happened.
Wow.
Davis is to be recalled.
All bets are off. No more solidarity among dems. It is a horse race.

Hugh Hewitt says Ahhnold has told his 'people' he won't run. Rumor is he might take on Boxer for Senate. I think this is a much better scenario. Boxer needs to be flushed this time around.

I can't wait until we finally dump this loser! He has been dumped. This is the announcement.
To: truthkeeper
Maybe my tinfoil's on too tight, but I can see Davis's hand in keeping certain people from running while encouraging others to run. CA better be careful, or Davis might get the best of the state yet.
