YES!!!!! Grayout didn't think we could do it! Quote of the day, maybe the YEAR, from his lips to ours:

"I think there are more people who are against the recall than think I am doing a good job."

HUH? Anyway, YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!

SF Gate Update: 18:29 PDT -- Secretary of State Kevin Shelley has certified the first recall election of a sitting governor in California history.

Shelley said his office has received more than 1.6 million signatures asking for the recall of Governor Gray Davis, more than 1.3 million of which have been found to be valid, far above the approximately 900,000 that were needed.

The spotlight now moves to Lieutenant Governor Cruz Bustamante, who must choose a date for the recall election this fall.

It's great to watch. Sec of State Shelley is a nervous wreck. I think he said Bustamante might speak soon?

Credit must be given where credit is due:

Darrel Issa

This historitc event would not have happened without him.

Thanks to him and all who worked on it.

It is real. It has happened.

It is not some vague future possibility -- it has happened.

Wow.

Davis is to be recalled.

All bets are off. No more solidarity among dems. It is a horse race.

So, what is the plan if Bustamante refuses to allow voters to choose a replacement, and takes the office himself by fiat, as he has threatened?

What would the people do?

What should the people do?

However this turns out its good for the GOP nationally. It says the progresive/liberals are failures and they cannot even keep themselves in office let alone govern. This kind of stuff speaks to the swing voters quitely but effectively.

I got my wife a nice Mini 14 when Greyout got hired. I figured he'd ban them soon. Glad I was wrong (but he still has 80 days).

Gov. Gray Davis became the nation's first governor in 82 years to face a recall election, as California's secretary of state announced Wednesday that a Republican-led campaign once discounted as improbable had qualified for the ballot.

Couldn't happen to a more deserving politician. Yes, I remember how they sneered and said we'd never get enough petitions. Hahaha!

Once Shelly certifies it, Davis cannot resign and Bustamonte take over, the election has to take place.
