Would somebody please explain to me how this "National Enquirer" type B/S is pertinant to what I expect on a conservitive political type forum. When this type of crap comes on TV, I turn. The only reason I'm on this thread now is to complain that it distracts me from more important news. Is ther nothing important going on out there today??

Is it true that these police visits were regarding complaints filed by the 19-year old or her family?

What exactly were the nature of these complaints?

I certainly wasn't suggesting that the only way to get "street cred" was to commit violent crimes. The examples you listed are case in point. But I guarantee you that certain segments of the population not only don't care about Kobe's crime (if he in fact committed it), but actually respect it. And this segment buys lots of shoes....

Do you think that the rapper "50 Cent" would be even a fraction as popular as he is if he didn't have the "cred" of a very violent past. Yeah, that's rap and this is basketball, but unfortunately the two seem to go togother these days. (A decent % of NBA stars fancy themselves rappers).

I agree with you.

My respect went way down. I mean, I love Michael Jordan, but strictly in a basketball sense. In terms of his work ethic and heart ON THE COURT, he was a role model for me. I also do feel for him losing his father, I can relate to that. But his adultery is not tolerable.

Kobe is actually worse, because it seems he loved and wanted to be with his wife. He has no rep for gambling, drinking, whoring or cavorting at strip clubs.

I actually respect a carrouser more than a guy who is upstanding then makes a terrible immoral choice.

This is as I said on another post, that he would come out and say this if charged. It is the common thing they do. He also said he asked his wife and God to forgive him and hopes they do. Brother, put in on with a spoon.

Nope. A prosecutor is immune from civil actions in a case like this, where the actions of the prosecutor are closely associated with the judicial process.

Politically speaking, the prosecutor didn't have much of a choice in this case. He pretty much had to file charges based on the evidence. Getting a conviction in this case is not going to be easy for the following reasons:

1. The 'victim' asked to deliver room service. Kobe did not lure or entice her into his room.
2. Kobe did the smart thing and admitted having sex so the presence of his DNA is to be expected. In essence, the DNA evidence means nothing.
3. This leaves bruises, scratches, possibly torn clothing or other signs of a struggle as the primary physical evidence. These could be possibly be explained away
4. Apparently other guests did not hear of any struggles or screams that one might expect in such a situation when the 'victim' knew other people could or would likely hear them.
5. Kobe has lots of money and can hire the best defense attorneys and expert witnesses.

Whether it was rape or consensual, Kobe is a scum bag in my opinion. The only difference is in degree; albeit a huge difference in degrees.

If the trial is held in the local jurisdiction, I think the chances of a conviction are 50/50. If he can get a change of venue, an acquittal is much, much more likely.

Ultimately, he REALLY REALLY screwed up, even if all he did was cheat. This is exactly the kind of situation you DON'T put yourself into.

We already know that Kobe is an admitted liar and cheat, and his squeaky-clean image was just smoke'n mirrors.

Even if ten juries find him not guilty of rape, I will never trust him again with telling the truth.
