I Need Help
Posted on 06/26/2003 9:03:21 PM PDT by Salamjohn
Ok guys, I'm a 15 year old boy living in northern Virginia. I was selected along with about 250 other high school students from from across the nation to a summer school on the campus of Georgetwon University. The summer schools i by the Junior Statesmen Association of America, and we study American government and we practice speech by participating in real debates. Like issues of fetal rights, Arctic Wildlife Refuge, "Under God" in teh pledge of alleigence. There are a ton of liberals, i mean alot of liberals. At least 80% Anyways, i have been assigned to defend the the US-led coalition's war on Iraq was a success not a failure. As a Bush supporter I beleive that it was, but the other side has some good arguments against it (Like where are the Weapons of mass destruction, and why are Iraqi people discontent with the US presence). If any of you guys can help me by giving me good arguments to support my case, then please do. I am researching stuff myself, but anything you guys can do is great. Thank you, John Francis Marion Clifton, VA Bethlehem Baptist Christian School

thanks i get nervous when speaking in public but i can do it. Deep breathing - take several deep breaths then exhale slowly. I use this technique before getting on a stage to sing in front of people quite a lot. Go for it - you'll be great!

I'm trying to remember the name of the Assyrian Christian minister who recently converted from pacifism; he had a good article recently on what the Iraqi people DO want, and it definitely isn't our absence.I Was Wrong - by Ken Joseph Jr.

Mr Mojo, I've used your quote a number of times now. Thank you so much! Salamjohn, hope this helps. :o)
Worth repeating by Mr. Mojo:
The best way to answer people who assert that GWB is lying about Iraq's WMD is to point out that it's the UN that claims to have this evidence. After the UN inspectors were kicked out of Iraq in 1998, they prepared a report of what they had verified Iraq had in its possession, including many thousands of liters of anthrax and over 10,000 chemical artillery shells. The destruction of these weapons is required by resolution 1441, and it's very clearly stated.
So we know with absolutely certainty that Iraq had these weapons. Where there are now is another story entirely, and my suspicion is that they're probably in Syria and/or Russia (if they're not still in Iraq). It's a large country with thousands of places to hide the damn things, so people who say that our inability to find anything so far proves anything are a bit hasty.
GWB is not lying.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/936727/posts Excerpt from the above link:
Other folks have made comments on the need for patience in finding Saddams weapons, but not me. I dont think its relevant. Saddam had them. Saddam was developing them. End of story. The fact that U.S./Coalition forces have yet to find all of the materials doesnt reduce the rightness of the conflict. Why? Because, no matter how much the lib/dem/soc/commies wish to lie about it, the fact is that the war was NEVER solely about WMDs.
This thread may give you some ideas as to where to look for information, The writer
gets a little more red mouthed than I would in a debate, but he is essentially
correct.

It helps to remember that the people you are speaking to are in the same boat.
And now a little story. When I was training in trade school we had to give
a few speeches/presentations. One of the guys in my group was terrified of
speaking in front of an audience. So terrified in fact that after about 1 minute he
fled the room, sped down the hall, entered the restroom and pitched his cookies.
What happened next is instructive, he washed his face, came back to the class and
finished his speech. I've always admired his guts. Trust me, if all you are is a
little nervous, you have no problem.

Please note that the agreement between Hussein's Iraq and the U.S. and other allies was only an armistice, a very temporary and very conditional cease-fire. It was not peace, and in reality the war never ended. We continually bombed them durning the interval, and they continually tried to shoot us down. There was no peace between us during the Clinton Administration.
Also note that the terms of the temporary cease-fire covered more than just weaponry. The Iraqies were obligated under threat of force to allow the U.N. inspectors in there, and throwing them out in 1998 was sufficiant cause to violate the terms of the armistice. This is what is meant by a material breach. Hussein's government had been in violation for years, not just in the last few months.
There was no "Gulf War II" because it was the same war, the shooting and bombing never even stopped. The war with Hussein's Iraq just now came to a conclusion, and was authorized and paid for by the Congress of the United States.

Go back and research Bush's speeches before the war. Find out what he REALLY used to justify this war. Weapons of Mass Destruction were one of a number of issues.
Other issues were: failure to abide by their surrender agreements, harboring and training terrorists inside Iraq, funding terrorists, violation of a large number of UN resolutions. The list goes on.
Also, find the instances where the Saddam regime CLAIMED to have WMDs.
Finally, demonstrate the opportunities the US gave Iraq to prove they were innocent of these things. Iraq declined to do so.

There is the nuclear scientist who hid documetns and devices under the rosebush in his garden. He was on the sunday programs.
To accept the premise that saddam did not have WMD you would have to accept 100% of the world players were wrong. France knew, all UN voting members knew and acted like Saddam had weapons.
France is upset that the US stopped Saddam from pricing oil in Euros instead of dollars.
