DSL or cable? What's your choice??

I'd love to get DSL if I could get it for $20 a month. Right now its still too expense to justify a switch from dial up.

Easy -- cable. Why? - I can't get DSL!

If I could get either, I would probably choose cable anyway. I've had Comcast HS Internet for over a year and it's been great.

I've had both. I really like cable, as the filters for the phone line didn't work that great with DSL. As for the speed, I can't tell the difference. I've been told that if you live around a large number of cable modem users, you'll see diminished download speed, but I've never witnessed it. Perhaps it would be a problem if you lived in dense housing (apartment/condo).

I have used DSL and Cable. I much prefer cable. I have been a customer of Road Runner for about 4 years and can count on one hand the number of times the services has been down. And still have fingers left over. Cable is much faster than DSL. I also have 4 computers wirelessly networked together on the one connection and notice no slowdown at all. Even if all 4 computers are downloading at once.

Check if Verizon is available in your area. I hear they will be offering DSL for $34.00, and for $29 if you also order long distance and cellular from them, too.

Cable at the house with a wireless network. T-1 at the office.

Depends where you are, but in Houston the answer is CABLE, CABLE, CABLE.

Repeat as necessary.

I don't know of anywhere that DSL is close to the speed of cable. When I run speed tests mine usually shows up as a T-1. At the office where cable is not available our DSL is about 12 times the speed of dial-up

I've used both. Much prefer cable. DSL is a headache, and with Qwest it went down frequently.

I have DSL and like it a lot. I don't have any experience with cable modems so I can't help there. While we're on the subject, anyone have experience with satellite based internet service? Does it work well, what does it cost, is there a service for Apple computers, etc.

My folks have Comcast Cable and their only complaint is that the e-mail doesn't download all the time. It times out and gives other annoying messages about being unable to make a connection. But the web surfing is excellent. I would get cable if it weren't so expensive. Right now, Verizon does not offer high-speed service to my zip code, but their rate is between $29 and $34, so that is very reasonable.

That's what I am paying too. $49.95 plus another million or so in taxes. AT&T. I was so excited when I saw the tv ads about Comcast coming to my area. Was so disappointed when I found out it was just AT&T changing their name. It's a monopoly around here. I don't think I could stand going back to dial-up though. I'm spoiled.

I have cable and no DSL experience, but my cable speed, according to one internet site (which may or may not be reliable) checks out my speed rating somewhere between "rocks" and "dude!" Since I'm assuming that's pretty good, remind me to incorporate those rating terms in employee evaluations and client letters.

Anyway, another benefit with cable is that you can install IP phones (if they are any good, I've never had one) and bypass the phone company entirely.
