I've had both. I really like cable, as the filters for the phone line didn't work that great with DSL. As for the speed, I can't tell the difference. I've been told that if you live around a large number of cable modem users, you'll see diminished download speed, but I've never witnessed it. Perhaps it would be a problem if you lived in dense housing (apartment/condo).

that's no longer true. the cable co's have put more equipment on so that it doesn't slow.
