Terrorists Possibly Targeting Texas, Chat Cites Attack in July; Energy Facilities on Alert
Houston Chronicle ^ | June 24, 2003 6:19 AM | Mike Hedges

United States Intelligence Agencies early this month eavesdropped on two suspected Al Qaeda operatives discussing potential terrorism in Texas timed for the Fourth of July Weekend raising the spectre of an attack on Energy Facilities in the Houston area, officals said Monday.

That information which did not specify a target, an exact time or type of terrorist attack, was passed along to state officials.

With Texas as the target, officials are especially concerned about oil, gas facilites and pipelines because Al Qaeda terrorists in the past have talked about attacking the energy sector as a way of damaging Americas economy, officials said.

A Federal official confirmed an account first published in Newsweek Magazine that a possible Al Qaeda operative known as 'Sakr' told another person during an Internet Chat Room conversation that an attack had been planned for a long time, and that terrorists inside the United States were waiting for approval from a man dubbed 'The Sheik' before striking in early July.

The information was much more intriguing to intelligence analyists than much of the avalanche of vaguely suspicious electronic intercepts, because Sakr had sent a message predicting 'good news' coming from Morocco shortly before a successful terrorist strike in that country.

Of course Texas is a terrorist target!! The Saudi and Aeab terrorists have been resting/training in Cuba. It is an easy trip to Meixco where the authorities, with a little cash, will escort them and their equipment to or, even, over, the border.

The first targets are there and easy: San Antonio, El Paso, Austin, Houston, or, up Rte. 35 to Dallas or Ft. Worth. Think of all the military bases.

It is criminal that the border has not been sealed. 800,000 illegal aliens and 200 tins of dope will come north across that border every year. We could defend ourselves and prevent that traffic and the terrorists but, for some very strange reason, won't. SEAL THE BORDER!!!

"...I don't think they'll target large numbers of people in specific areas again. All that does is piss us off."

And they lose a country in the process.

"I think they'll go after our infrastructure, and what better place to start than our energy supplies."

And then they lose another country in the process.

I'm in no way mocking you or making light of the situation, but terrorists keep pushing on because they think that they will be able to finally break "the big dog." But they're terribly mistaken. When they threaten, we become more galvanized, and if they attack (and I pray that they don't, of course) we become like a lion that tears the limbs off it's prey. They just need to give up and realize they're messing with the wrong people.

Time for a lift on the assault ban, and for everyone to be able to defend themselves freely everywhere we go -- concealed or not. That's the reason we haven't been invaded by enemy forces in the past -- they knew that even if they got by the military, there would be an armed populace ready to defend the land we love.

If the government cared so much about us, they would remove all obstacles so that all innocent-until-proven-guilty persons can properly defend themselves -- true Homeland Security.

"What about the three cats and the Dread Boston Salty?"

By all means, bring the three cats and the Salty!
We may need an emergency food supply.

In fact, I was thinking of cooking some real Mexican enchiladas today, and they'll come in handy.

"but terrorists keep pushing on because they think that they will be able to finally break "the big dog."'

What we must never do is underestimate our enemies.
The people who carry out the terrorists acts are, for the most part, stupid, but the ones who plan and finance these attacks are far from stupid.
They know the American people can be demoralized, but not by blowing up buildings and killing people.
Those sensational terrorist attacks are over, in my opinion.
The attacks now will concentrate on our water supply, our electrical supply, our food supply and our fuel supply.
These attacks will be small in comparison to 9-11, but they will be insidious.

BTW: I agree wholeheartedly with the "right to keep and bear arms....."

My 13 year old son and I are flying to Long Beach 7/5. I'm competing in the 24th Annual National Veteran Wheelchair Games. I'm bringing an air rifle and a compound bow. Think I'll have fun at the airport?

I hear they are easy to kill when located but tough to clean and a taxidemist want's extra because of the stank on their pelts.........I added my scoped M1A to the cruiser after 9-11. If I see one I'll get one, or two , or three...........hopefully !

Stay Safe yerself CL !
