[history]
A 200-pound black bear crashed through the screen door of a Vernon home yesterday, ransacking the kitchen and trapping a woman and her two young children in a bedroom until police arrived and rescued them.
The female bruin was shot and killed as it tried to get out of the house through an open window.

It's time to hunt the bears and lessen the population. This is getting ridiculous.
Genesis 9:3 Every creature that is alive shall be yours to eat; I give them all to you as I did the green plants.
"It's like bears have no fear of people, and to me that's the scariest thing," Pascarella said.>>
It's time to arm every family with a shotgun, allow the 2nd amendment for which it was intended.

I know a whole bunch of American Revolutionary war re-enacters who would love to have some black bear fur for the Grenadier or dragoon helmets.
Best to wash the tanned hide in the washing machine and throw some Suave creme rinse in the rinse water so that the smell of the fur doesn't cause your dogs/cats to attack you when you wear the helmet.
My husband knows from experience. Our horses hated the smell of bear fur, as well.

Yet, in NJ, a guy got arrested for shooting a bear as the bear was leaving.( had the bear not been retreating the guy probably wouldn't have been arrested).
Why is it the civilian gets arrested for doing the same thing a DFW guy does ?

It's time to hunt the bears and lessen the population. This is getting ridiculous. I just made a post to another thread about a guy getting arrested for shooting a bear in the ass at 15 yards range.
The "authorities" are of the opinion that because the bear was shot in the ass that the home owner should not have done that.
Kalifungas logic. I would not insult the icon "pretzel" by calling it "pretzel logic".

In NJ, if you shoot a person breaking into your home or is in your home raping your wife, and he is unarmed, and has a way of egress, guess who goes to jail?

Bear makes EXCELLENT stew.
I got 2 months of fillets and stew from one femur. Just think of what that could do to county food pantries.
Speaking of which, what do they do with the meat after a kill?

I think they eat it. That's how I ate bear once before, a cub had been hit by a car on skyline drive in Ringwood, was shot, then the meat was eaten. I didn't like it too much, too gamey. I guess the meat needs to be dressed up..

Who, the Vernon Police?
Ah, the gamey taste is taken out through a trick I learned in the South.
It has to do with soaking the meat in ice water and salt for days. AND CHANGING the WATER DAILY<---that is the key.
When we moved there (rural NC) for our rural track, I SQUAWKED WAYYYYYYY too loud about neighbors burying their kill from hunting in their backyard.
SOOOO, since we were 'Yankees' they brought us a bear femur complete with fur after a hunt to smuggly see if we would squirm. I thanked them as if they gave us a free rolls royce. In the meantime, I had no clue but called people that knew how to prepare game to support my end.
The idiot neighbors that would shoot to kill without preparing...I brought them prepared food. We EARNED immediate respect. I do have photos that are REALLY funny to document the looney tunes incidents of us fumbling through the preparing though.
The meat is REALLY good. We even did jerky.

You can get fined up to $10,000 for messing with those eggs and baby-killing physicians get paid government and private money $$$ to kill humans! Go figure. I seem to remember another verse that says woe to them who call good evil, and evil good. When He says woe, I don't think He means "stop."

I dunno, I think most bears would be pubbies. Meat and potato types, don't really worry too much about what they wear, opposed to higher taxes... They believe in the right to Keep and arm bears!

Besides, wasn't it a (dim)wit lawyer from CA that got his knickers in a knot over Oreos? Bears would never support this!

My parents bought a home a few streets away from us. They learned from a neighbor that a black bear had broken into this house just before they bought it. The owner came back from shopping to find it contentedly flopped in the kitchen, fridge door open, food spread all over the floor. Perhaps that is why the house went on the market ;-)
It happens a couple of times a year in my neighborhood... life in the Poconos :-)
