LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) --National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice said Thursday that the Palestinian Authority and Israel must work as partners to thwart the cycle of violence erupting in Jerusalem and Gaza and vowed that "there is not going to be any pass for Palestinian leadership in fighting terror."

The US threatens Israel.
All the time posters here ask why Israel holds back. Why it doesn't take care of the terrorists.
Occasionally, the answer is such that the simplest can understand.
Rice: And Israel, she said, must "recognize consequences" from the way it battles terrorism.
This happens all the time.
This is the United States telling Israel that they can not fight terrorism, like we fight terrorism.
Israel can only play to a draw.
The Bush Administration disgusts me.

"Frankly, there are also things that others can do," she added. "The Arab states need, right now, to say that Hamas and other rejectionist organizations, which have said that they intend to destroy the road map, are not speaking for the Arab world."Has a new word entered the lexicon, or am I just out of the loop?

I listened to Bush's first initial comments yesterday, reacting to the Bus bombing after Israel had already retaliated. What baffles me is that this report above talks of Bush damning Israel, when he didn't do any such thing. If I heard the full body of Bush's comments, and I watched from before he was on camera until afterwards, it's a bald face lie that he condemned Israel.
He spoke of the cowardice and unacceptable behavior of terrorists and their inexcusable actions. At one point he expressed his wish that Israel and the Palestinians would not cast efforts at peace aside, but he in no way attacked Israel.
I think this report is a misinformation job trying to further a defeatist mindset against Israel. It sure doesn't accurately describe anything I saw from Bush yesterday and I'm one person who doesn't pull his punches if I disagree with Bush.
To: Courier
I would generally agree with you, but I am convinced this report mischaracterizes Bush's reaction yesterday.

Has a new word entered the lexicon, or am I just out of the loop? Nah. It's just revanchist, revisited.

And Israel, she said, must "recognize consequences" from the way it battles terrorism.I usually come down pretty hard on the Bush administration for it's policy of damning Israel after it's retaliation for terrorism, but in this instance I am sure this article lies about Bush's reaction to the bus bombing and Israel's response. In light of that I'm going to give Condi a bit of wiggle room for the above comment.
I'm not sure what context she said that in, all the other damning of terrorism around it etc., may have been removed and softened making this comment by her more bold. She may have given a scathing attack on terrorism for five minutes before this one sentence. We just don't know.

Not only that, but this CNN report shows Rice to be tougher on the Pallies than the earlier Reuters report was.

You're right, the concept isn't new. But have you heard the word "rejectionist" used before?
It's just a minor detail, but I'm curious because I heard the word used in an audio clip on the Rush Limbaugh show today (Roger Hedgepath sitting in) and wondered if it was recently coined. Now I'm seeing it in this article (then again, the clip may have been of Condi speaking the quote quoted in the article).

"Despite the "tragic events" of recent days in Jerusalem and Gaza, Rice said, the Bush administration sees a positive, new chapter in Middle East history, a "real chance to build a future of peace, freedom and opportunity." When will people learn that PEACE comes AFTER you've defeated ENEMIES of PEACE; not BEFORE.
One cannot negotiate with these motherf!cker terrorist organizations.
To: Courier
Of course not. Anyone with half a brain knows that Abbas is Arafat's stooge. We know it as well. However, the time will come, if the assassinations continue, when Arafat will run out of chesspieces. Then, Abbas, hungry ambitious dog that he is, will be able to step forward.
This diplomatic speak is for public consumption, in many cases. Some of it should be taken seriously, such as operative statements of policy. Other stuff, such as "Israelis and Palestinians working together" is feelgood pablum. It's supposed to be feelgood pablum, and like a lot of political rhetoric, has little to do with the reality on the ground. Of all people, Condi Rice knows this.

Rice: And Israel, she said, must "recognize consequences" from the way it battles terrorism. She's only stating what I've been saying for 2 days now. Sending in gunships, shooting missiles, was crude. Israel has far better tools than that. Fight terrorism, take out the leaders of Hamas, do what's necessary, but don't be so in your face about it. Send in the Mossad.

Notice the invasion of Iraq? Afghanistan?
It wasn't done by the CIA and pretty girls in bikinis.

Both Afghanistan AND Iraq had major elements of special ops AND CIA, that's why they were so successful.

Real life is not Mission Impossible and Alias.Really? Try telling that to the dead Munich terrorists.

The Bush Administration disgusts me.You disgust me....and hey Delta is ready when you are, so why don't you start packing. Maybe you and Al Gore can work on your peace plan somewhere else.

Real life is not Mission Impossible and Alias. Notice the invasion of Iraq? Afghanistan? It wasn't done by the CIA and pretty girls in bikinis.Exactly. So now Israel is not only told when she can defend herself, but how (no, no, that's not pretty, might get the terrorists mad, can you try something a little more unobtrusive?)
We have bombed places in Bagdad when we had it on 'good report' that Saddam was in the building. Today I understand we bombed a building that was reported to be used for terrorist training.
And Israel shouldn't take out a terrorist while he's right there?
