Julie Ann Somenek was sitting at her kitchen table in Northbrook on Monday morning, reading her Sun-Times. The next moment, she was face-to-face with a 200-pound, four-point buck that had just crashed through her living room window after being chased by a neighbor's dog.
"I didn't have time to look up when I heard it come through the window," said Somenek, who lives in the 4300 block of Phyllis Road. "I was surprised."
Once inside, the deer went for the 62-year-old woman, knocking her out of her chair, then heading to the laundry room. Somenek, who owns Somenek Pastries in Niles, thought fast.
"I'm not sure how I got up, but I was able to lock it in the room," she said. "I was scared it was going to break out."
It tried, thrashing and kicking and banging on the door. A few minutes later, the police arrived and devised a plan: They left the back door open, then a brave soul opened the laundry room door and moved out of the way while the buck ran out the back.
It worked, but the deer made a mess of the laundry room.
"He must have cut himself because it looked like a murder scene in there," said Somenek's son, Ed, who was also home at the time. "There was blood everywhere."
Julie Ann Somenek was checked out at Glenbrook Hospital's emergency room, where doctors and nurses kept coming by to hear her story.
"We would see deer in the back yard all the time," her son said later. "We used to like them-- not anymore."

was this a hate crime? was the deer a known horned-supremacist? if so, I fully support the death penalty in this case.

Reminds me of the happy city folk moving out here to the country and calling the cops to remove the viscious man eating deer from their backyard.
As well as the woman who wanted the road department to move the deer crossing signs because she didn't want the deer to cross there anymore.

These deer have no natural predators left so they breed themselves into overpopulation. When it's suggested that hunters be alowed to thin the herds so that the deer don't starve, cause accidents and property damage or the type of problems related in this article, Bambi-huggers go to court to stop any attempts to manage this four-legged menace
A deer jumped in front of my motorcycle a week ago and I now have a shattered left shoulder to show for it. This happened on a busy highway in the middle of a town in Northwest Indiana, not a rural area.
The only good deer has been made into jerky...

You are extremely blessed to still be alive. Hitting a deer with a motorcycle is usually fatal. I hate the dadburned things. I have to run the gauntlet every time I go out in the car around here. You feel as if you're gambling with your life. I don't worry about other cars and drivers, I worry about hitting deer.

My husband has his two deer with his truck. Fortunately, it's a deuce-and-a-half, so no one got hurt... except the deer.

Oh good, maybe you can help me. This looks like the type of thread which would have attracted the same readers... to a recent thread I am searching for.
Do you remember a story about a guy in Alaska who shot a gigantic grizzly? As I recall, it took him 6 shots. Then they found a lost hiker or fisherman inside this bear.
I can't find this thread. I've tried all sorts of searches.
My husband was telling me today, about a guy at work who has a friend in Alaska, who shot a huge bear. As he mentioned a few details, I said I had already read about this on FR. Too funny. I want to find this darned thread so it can be emailed to the hunter.

Call PETA, and threaten to sue!
Seriously though,I come from a long line of deer hunters.I do not hunt myself, because I do not enjoy it, but I volunteer to be the recipient of venison for any hunters who have too much to fit in a freezer.
I just ask that I can track the hang time prior to butchering.(I like 5 days myself)
It is kind of funny to those of us with a warped sence of humor to hear all the cries of save Bambi, while the same voices cry to kill the vicious bears and cougars who normally feed on Bambi.
Such a hard concept to get through to the restaurant and "frozen food prepared meal" people that meat comes from actual formerly living animals.Someone, somewhere, put that egg, steak, bacon or chicken on your grocery store shelf. It involved killing an animal.Humans are omniverous. We are designed to digest just about everything that grows on the face of the earth.
I may not enjoy shooting a rabbit or squirrel or a deer, but I do know how to cook them to feed myself and my family. And,if God forbid, society collapses,I can feed me and mine by hunting and processing my own meat.
Pardon me while I LMAOAROTF when confronted by people who think humans are not a part of mother natures natural food chain!
