Just a quick update regarding the Recall Governor Gray Davis. The recall effort is going strong in California, especially in Bakersfield/Kern County. At our current rate we should have enough signatures to prevail by the petition deadline.
I spent yesterday getting sunburned in front of a couple of WalMart stores in Bakersfield. I gathered more petitions than I expected considering my late start.
The the comments I received and the passion of the people to recall Davis was extremely encouraging, and covered the political spectrum (many who want Davis out are Democrats)!
I was surprised by how many people said things like "Can I sign it ten times?". So many people would hear me say the words "Sign here to fire Gray Davis!" and then they would flip an immediate u-turn and almost run over to me (I'm not kidding) and say "Give me that petition! You bet I'll sign it!" This was often followed by curses against Davis which I will not repeat here.
There were more than a few people who wanted to do more to Gray Davis than merely recall him.
As I listened to the petition signers, I heard wide and varied opinions as to why Davis should be gone, but there was a great consensus that he should be gone.
After Davis is recalled the big question (and concern) is "who will replace him?"
I covet your prayers in the recall effort, and I'll keep you updated. God Bless. tame.
I'm all for that!
I've been dealing with broadband installers that know less than I do about computers....ugh!!!!!!!!!!!
LO F-ing L! You've got a lot of guts saying that coming from Taxichusetts. When was "The Swimmer" voted out again?
I know it sounds good in theory to tank the CA economy in order to accomplish getting rid of him, but spending increases are a difficult thing to reverse, and leaving him in power for 41% yearly increases for another 3 years is simply "stupid".
CA's economy is already in the toilet. Suppose you have your dream scenario: Davis gets replaced by a conservative Republican. The dems still control the legislature and will prevent the our man from doing anything positive. The mess won't be cleaned up after two years, and he'll lose in the next election.
I disagree for 2 reasons;
1. I'd have to go back and make sure these are the most up to date numbers but per year, CA is drawing 21% increase in "income" from the taxpayer, it has a 26% population increase, and a 36% increase in spending. I think its 41% for the new budget. Plainly speaking, there is absolutely no reason or excuse for CA to be in the red at all. McClintock has even said that all it took was something like a decrease in spending of .9% to get it back in black, but again I'd have to confirm these numbers, he has the stats on his website, he's a big anti-tax crusader.
2.CA's budget doesn't work like the federal, you need 2/3rd of the assembly to get it passed, and the Gov has alot more power than a President in it.
Is it not a better strategy to force the Democrats in the next election to run on Davis' record? You'll stand a much higher chance of winning both the governorship and the legislature, and it's only then that any GOPer can do any good.
No, it didn't work last election. Meanwhile, California slips down to a level beyond repair and the rest of us suffer.
You'll stand a much higher chance of winning both the governorship and the legislature, and it's only then that any GOPer can do any good.
That's what they said last time and we ended up with just as many Democrats. There is something really fishy going on in California elections. With as much as everyone hated Davis last year, I just cannot believe he won fair and square. Do you know what Davis' campaign manager Garry South said two days before the election last year? In the Chronicle he was quoted as saying "It's over. We won. This is what our money bought us." Before the election! Tell me there wasn't any voter fraud. No, Davis and company are scared now because they can't bribe anyone to stop the recall. It's out of their hands. A Republican candidate can easily win the recall as a Democrat provided we don't have too many on the ballot and overly distribute the vote. But hey, at this point, anybody's grandmother could do just as well as the incompetents in Sacramento. California cannot survive three more years of Davis. We are punishing ourselves, not the Dems.
