RUN, RUDY, RUN (ERIC RUDOLPH)
NewsWithViews.com ^ | June 4, 2003 | Mary Starrett

I don't know if Eric Rudolph did all the terrible things they say he did, but I have my doubts.

Apparently, all those people who wore tee shirts bearing the message "Run, Rudy, Run" have had their doubts as well. Short of a confession by the man, I'll continue to hold on to those doubts.

Like many people, I followed his story closely, from his 1998 disappearance after an abortuary was bombed, to news that a massive manhunt by hundreds of law enforcement officials had failed to turn up one of "America's Most Wanted."

Five years later, they have their man. Or do they?

Rudolph's name was first linked to bombings after a shrapnel and nail device went off at The New Woman All Women abortuary in Birmingham. That blast seriously injured a woman and killed an off-duty cop. Someone said they saw Rudolph's truck nearby and a man fitting his description walking away from the scene. Weeks later his truck was found abandoned near the rugged hills of the Appalachian Trail. Rudy had run and was nowhere to be found, despite the high-tech search that ensued.

Two years, plus a million dollar bounty later, Rudy was like a ghost in those hills. The cops were feeling silly. What happened next doesn't pass the smell test. Not only was Rudolph charged with the Birmingham bombing but with a few other unsolved bombings as well. After all, why not dump all the other cases law enforcement wasn't able to solve on Rudy?

Remember how poor Richard Jewell was demonized and falsely-accused of the 1996 Olympic Park bombing? That quiet, gentle man had his life turned upside down by Keystone Cops desperate to find a culprit. Could it be that what they couldn't pin on Richard they decided to add to Eric Rudolph's list of sins? That list had grown over the years he was presumably hiding out in the mountains of western North Carolina to include additional bombings-another abortuary and a gay nightclub in Atlanta. The evidence against Rudolph? Nails. They say nails in the bombs were like nails found amongst his belongings.(Other than this, prosecutors are mum on the evidence they say they have linking Rudolph to all four bombings.)

Is this just a case of law enforcement feeling like fools because a simple country boy had eluded them all these years?

What should be cause for concern for all Americans is the way they've described this man: "…he studied the Bible, believed the United Nations was usurping U.S. sovereignty, held anti-government sentiment…was an anti-abortion crusader…questioned the Holocaust…was anti-gay, anti-foreigner" to name just a few of the phrases labeling him in the press. Here we go again- paint the man with those colors and he's…guilty! Such tagging is what most Americans accepted to excuse what happened to Randy Weaver and his family when they were the victims of an all-out blitzkrieg by the federal government in Ruby Ridge, Idaho some years back. Anymore, all you have to do is co-opt a willing media to go along with these categorizations and you can garner widespread approval for considering someone a dangerous criminal.

Now, maybe Eric Rudolph really was behind the crimes for which he stands accused. But, as I see it, there are some glaring inconsistencies in the whole thing.

First off, by all accounts, the man was not obsessed by the abortion issue. He didn't talk about it, rail against it or display any sentiment whatsoever about the gruesome practice. Most anti-aborts are well-known for their position. Certainly those who find the wholesale murder of babies abhorrent- talk about it. Rudy didn't. That may or may not be a clue as to whether he'd have a motive to blow up an abortuary.

Secondly, one of Eric Rudolph's brothers is gay. Again, not likely he'd be rearranging the floor plan of a gay nightclub.

Third, what possible vendetta could be behind the bomb left at Centennial Olympic Park?

Attorney General John Ashcroft wasted no time announcing the fine police work that netted this dangerous criminal 5 years after he went missing. Like most mothers whose sons are suspected of committing violent crimes, Patricia Rudolph doesn't think Eric's guilty. The Christian mother of six said "I pray the Holy Spirit will intervene and Eric will be exonerated, but once you're in the hands of the people who have power, it'll take a miracle."

Start praying all you "Bible-studying, anti-government, U.N.-bashing" zealots- those descriptions could mean you're the main suspects in unsolved crimes.

judging by how much sympathy the writer has for anti-government freaks like Eric Rudolph, this might be an appropriate place to place this message:

Please contribute to the John Walker Lindh Defense Fund.

hell, he was anti-government too! these two men ought to have a lot in common, if you really think about it....

One of the strongest Christian ladies I know (she lives in Raleigh, NC now) had the experience of watching CNN the night of the club bombing ... and saw her gay son milling around outside, and interviewed, too, I believe. She said that she was woken out of a sound sleep by the Father to see this ... so she would not see the news in the morning and experience the even momentary horror of believing her son might be dead.

It was a lesbian night club.

I've been lurking on this article and, sad as it is, there is a lot of truth in your statement about the polygraph.

Having the ability to notice that such an attitude exists in society doesn't make one a racist and the inability to see such attitudes can be caused by a host of social conditions.

I miss lurking at your site, will it be restored?

I live in an integrated neighborhood now, and grew up in an integrated neighborhood, both in the South. Funny, but my parents, who grew up during legal segregation in the rural South, didn't seem to suffer under the "degradation" of having black neighbors.

It drives me insane. I am not for abortion in 99% of the cases. But I am not for private citizens becoming judge jury and executioner EVER, using religious or other convictions as an excuse. By that logic you'd have to conclude the 9/11 terrorists were justified. You'll never convince me that killing a doctor, nurse, or someone else involved in an abortion is just. Is Eric guilty? That's up to the jury. If Eric is guilty I hope he toasts.

That scares the hell out of me my FRiend, but it's true. If the "gubernmint" would let the people of this great nation develop it, we wouldn't have a 6% unemployment rate.

As Stan the Man always said with tongue in cheek "We're from the government, and we're here to help you". Words that truly strike fear into my heart.

I don't know what evidence exists but I don't think nails alone will convict him.

Ya, it sure looks like a doubtful case. It's likely that he's been hiding in the hills for the last five years just because he wanted to get away from the crowd.

Now we post reports from sites that maintain SARS is a scam. There are some dead people who might take issue with that assertion.

Next we'll post reports from the North Korean government.

The truth is that I don't have a clue about whether Rudolph did what he is accused of doing. However, many of those running to his defense seem to have more than a sense of justice driving them.

What I said, was that Raciest or not, his actions were non-discrimitory-he could not protect the unborn whites without protecting blacks as well.

In my opinion he is no more a murderer than the abortionists. They are mass murderers in fact and he is alleged to have killed only a few.

It is interesting to know where people really stand-too many seem willing to stand for anything.

I like your screen name! I went into my "Editing" file, and here is the excerpt from her chapter, explaining why her son was there, and looking back, some interesting stuff. (This is from "From the Attic to the Altar" by Toni Mann):

"At this time in my life, the Lord had been waking me up a lot very early in the morning. This particular time, He woke me up at three o’clock in the morning. Those of you who sleep during this time of the night may not know this, but there’s often very good preaching scheduled late at night. In fact, there’s a wonderful praise program on TV, so I picked up the TV remote and started searching, searching, searching.

“What do You want me to see? What do You want me to see?” I asked as each channel flew by. I knew from past experience that I would know it when I saw it, and I fully expected it to be some priceless gem of spiritual teaching. Suddenly, I stopped changing channels and stood riveted in place. This was not a Christian channel as I had expected. It was a newscast!

The first thing that caught my eye was the yellow crime tape that goes up so quickly around a crime scene, such as a murder. Then I heard the words: ‘…Bombing of gay bar–Atlanta.’ I caught just that much of it and my eyes were now glued to the TV. Suddenly, I saw Joseph. My son was at the scene and was talking with a reporter who was interviewing him. It seems that they suspected that the bombing may have been carried out by the same person who bombed the Olympics and an abortion clinic.

Now someone has bombed the bar where Joseph’s friend Bobby was manager. Joe had gone over that evening to help out his friend because he was short-handed. Now, I’m watching my son being interviewed. Thankfully, I can see that there are no wounds and that he does not appear to be hurt. I watched that newscast over and over and over again until about five in the morning, at which time I finally went back to bed. At six o’clock, the phone rang.

“Hi, Mom. It’s me.” I was so glad to hear Joseph’s voice. “I’m just calling you because I didn’t want you to get up and hear the news.”

“Stop right there, Joseph. I’ve been watching you since three o’clock this morning, son.”

“Of course. I should have known. God woke you up, didn’t He, Mother? I was scared that if you got up and just heard the news without knowing I was okay, you’d have a heart attack.”

“I probably would have, son. I probably would have. But God prepared me. I want you to know that I’m coming to Atlanta. Just as soon as that mess is cleaned up, I’m coming there because I want to see where you work. You know that I love you and these things are scary, so just prepare for a visit.”

“That’ll be fine, Mom. I would love to have you come.”

-End of Excerpt-

You "are" able to kill your neighbor-may you "legally" kill him? No.

Can an abortionist legally kill a baby?-the law of the land says he may-and one hundred million dead babies later, it is too obvious that he "can".

May an abortionist be killed legally? The law of the land says he "may" not be. Some are dead, so they "can" be killed. Do I give a darn? Yes, I do, I grieve for the price to be paid by the killer of the killer, for doing no more to his victim than his victim has done to thousands and thousands of innocent and helpless babies.

Justice has become twisted. Maybe she needs to raise that blindfold up just a tad and behold what is happening.

She is a very special person. I posted an excerpt about the nightclub bombing a little bit downthread. She has had an amazing life - and has survived some horrors that I couldn't have imagined - and come out of the other side in light and love.

...and he is alleged to have killed only a few.

And that makes it right? Where is the bright line for an acceptable number of deaths? Three is OK, four is not? We are ALL our Father's children. Why would He weep less for three than for a hundred?

His alleged victims were aiders and abettors of monsters that have collectively slain over a hundred million. Does having the blessings of Nine enablers dressed in black robes make their atrocities alright.

Don't start throwing our Father into this argument, and how he loves all his children and weeps for one just as much as for a hundred. Our Father is surely weeping for the hundred million babies that despicable people have proclaimed to be non-human, and unworthy to live and murdered on a wholesale scale, as we law abiding citizens stood by wringing our hands and doing nothing except whining and quickly condemning anyone who made some futile attempt to end it.

How much longer can we exist with heads in the sand, ignoring the screams of our conscience and pretend that everything is okay, while larger and larger percentages of each new generation are assinated before ever drawing a breath?

So were the terrorists of 9/11 justified? Using religious conviction as the reason that it's right though against the law, what can we conclude? I understand your grief for the unborn and it is shared by many, myself included. But I can not share your feelings about the killer of the killer of the .... You have a right to your opinion and I won't waste your time trying to change your mind.

"There is hope, but not in our lifetime."

Maybe in our lifetime. Often when times and conditions seem absolutely hopeless, humanity mysteriously seems to change course and shift gears and everything changes for the better in an unbelievably short time-decades-not eons.

Of course shifts toward the worse can be just as sudden.
